Politecnico di Torino Vice President Leads Delegation to Donghua University

A delegation led by Professor Silvia Barbero, Vice President of Politecnico di Torino, visited Donghua University’s Songjiang Campus on December 29, marking a step forward in strengthening academic ties between the two institutions.


Donghua University Vice President Lu Weibing welcomed the delegation, joined by representatives from the university’s International Cooperation Office, Graduate School, College of Mechanical Engineering, and College of Textiles. The two sides held in-depth discussions on joint talent development, research collaboration, and platform building, reaching preliminary consensus on expanding institutional cooperation.

In his remarks, Lu highlighted Donghua University’s longstanding focus on engineering education and its recent efforts to advance cutting-edge research and interdisciplinary innovation. He noted the university’s emphasis on integrating industry, academia, and research, as well as translating research outcomes into practical applications. Lu also underscored Donghua’s commitment to cultivating globally competitive engineering talent and fostering high-level international research partnerships. He expressed hope that the visit would open new avenues for collaboration, including joint training programmes, the establishment of an overseas Excellence Engineer Academy, and cooperative research initiatives.


Professor Barbero thanked the university for its warm reception and introduced Politecnico di Torino’s strengths in engineering, aerospace, and design, as well as its forward-looking educational approach. She noted strong alignment between the two institutions in areas such as sustainable materials and civil aviation, highlighting significant potential for collaboration. Barbero expressed confidence that the visit would deepen exchanges and lead to concrete joint initiatives.


During the visit, the delegation toured Donghua University’s Science and Technology Achievement Exhibition Hall, where further discussions were held on potential areas of cooperation. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing collaboration in talent cultivation and research, laying the groundwork for a strengthened institutional partnership.
