Application Eligibility:
1. Non-Chinese citizens with a valid ordinary foreign passport, in good physical and mental health.
2. Sufficient financial resources; no criminal record.
3. Applicants who meet the following conditions are eligible to apply as international students:
(1) Applicants who emigrated from mainland China, Hongkong, Taiwan or Macao, and have obtained a foreign nationality.
(2) Applicants who acquired a foreign nationality at the time of birth, and whose parents (either or both) hold Chinese nationality (nationalities) and reside abroad.
--- International applicants in the above situation must fulfill both two conditions following:
① Applicants must have held a valid foreign passport or nationality certificate for more than 4 years (inclusive), which means having acquired a foreign nationality before May 1, 2022.
② Applicants must have lived outside mainland China/Hong Kong/Macao/Taiwan for at least two years during the period from May 1, 2022 to April 30, 2026 (according to the entry and exit record, if the applicant has stayed outside mainland China/Hong Kong/Macao/Taiwan for nine months or longer period during one year, it is equivalent to one year).
4. Age Requirements:
(1) Applicants for entrance scholarships: be at least 16 years old and under the age of 25.
(2) Self-funded applicants: be at least 16 years old and under the age of 35.
5. Educational Background: have obtained a graduation certificate of higher secondary school, or its international equivalent, qualified for university entrance.
6. Language Proficiency:
(1) For Chinese-taught programs: at the application stage, Chinese proficiency must reach a level equivalent to HSK Level 4 (with a minimum score of 180) or above. Higher scores are strongly preferred.
*** The Chinese proficiency requirement for undergraduate admission is HSK Level 5 (with a minimum score of 180) or above. Higher scores are strongly preferred.
(2) For English-taught programs: English proficiency must reach IELTS (Academic) 5.5 or TOEFL iBT 72. Higher scores are strongly preferred.

Step 1: Click the link, complete registration, log in to your account, fill in personal and academic information, upload application materials, and pay the application fee online (800 CNY). Ensure your application status is "Submitted". Step 1 must be completed before the application deadline.
(1) For first-time users, please register first. If you have registered at DHU before, please log in directly to apply. Do not register a new account again.
(2) Applicants can only apply for one program major. Please research and determine your intended major in advance.
(3) The application fee is required for all types of entrance scholarships application and self-funded applications. Applications will be invalid if the fee is not paid as required. The application fee is non-refundable once paid.
(4) The scholarships of CGS-Category Type A and SGS cannot be selected simultaneously. Select "CGS-Category Type B or SGS" when filling in the "Source of Funding" if you plan to apply for study with SGS.
Step 2: The "Application Status" in your online application system helps you track your application progress.
· Submitted: Application has been received by the university.
· To be Reviewed: Application has entered the processing procedure.
--➽ Applicants need to check their account regularly. If the status shows "Returned", it must be handled and revised promptly.
· Returned: Application was returned to the applicant during processing.
--➽ Applicants need to check the "Remarks" section, provide and update information or materials in accordance with the listed requirements within the specified time limit. Only after completing this step and clicking the "Submit" button can the school receive the updated application; or, complete the online application fee payment on time. If the status remains "Returned" without timely action from the applicant, the application will become invalid automatically.
· Under Review: Application has formally entered the university's review and evaluation process.
--➽ Applicants wait for the result. Check email frequently to avoid missing notifications from the university, such as Pre-admission Letter issuance, notifications about exam/interview or admission results, etc.
Application Materials and Specifications:
* Uploaded documents must be color scans of the originals. All documents, except the personal ID photo, should be submitted in PDF format.
* Ensure all application documents are authentic, complete, with clear and undamaged text/layout. Applications will be invalid if documents are found to be falsified or forged.
1. Passport (and Visa Pages)
(1) Clear copy of the passport information page, including: name, photo, date of birth, place of birth, passport issue and expiry dates.
(2) Ordinary passport valid until after February 1, 2027. Do not change your passport from the time of application until enrollment (if admitted).
(3) If you have previously been to China or are currently in China, submit copies of all relevant visa pages and entry chop pages.
2. High School Diploma/School Leaving Certificate, and the Transcripts of All Grades/Semesters of Your Higher Secondary School (or equivalent level such as IB, A-Level, etc.)
(1) Must be original documents bearing the official stamp of the issuing institution/school or the signature of the responsible officials.
(2) When submitting transcripts, include an official explanation of its grading system.
(3) If the original documents are not in Chinese or English, they must first be translated into Chinese or English, and then notarized. Upload the following: original document in original language, translated document & notarization document.
(4) Applicants who are expected to graduate and obtain their High School Diploma/School Leaving Certificate before the end of August 2026 must submit an official Pending Certificate issued by their home school, along with official transcripts for all completed semesters to date. The Pending Certificate must clearly state the expected graduation date (month). The official High School Diploma/School Leaving Certificate and final complete transcripts must be submitted to Donghua University promptly upon receipt.
(5) All admitted students must provide the original documents for verification during the registration and enrollment in the coming September. Students who receive a conditional offer based on a Pending Certificate or Provisional Certificate will have their admission and enrollment qualification canceled if they fail to obtain the official High School Diploma/School Leaving Certificate before the end of August 2026.
3. Language Proficiency Certificates
(1) For Chinese-taught Programs: An HSK Level 4 certificate (with a minimum score of 180) or above, and an HSKK score report must be provided.
Important Note: To enroll in an undergraduate program at Donghua University, applicants must possess genuine Chinese proficiency equivalent to HSK Level 5 (with a minimum score of 180) or higher. Higher scores are strongly preferred. An HSK Level 4 score (above 180) or an HSK Level 5 score (below 180) can only be used for application purposes and is only valid during the application stage. If a conditional offer is received, a newly obtained HSK Level 5 certificate (with a score above 180) must be submitted to the university before the enrollment & registration. Failure to do so will result in the inability to register and commence undergraduate studies.
① The test date on the certificate must be on or after September 1, 2024.
② Applicants whose entire higher secondary school curriculum and teaching-related activities were conducted entirely in Chinese may be exempted from submitting an HSK certificate. However, a certificate issued and officially stamped/signed by the school confirming that all courses and teaching activities were conducted entirely in Chinese must be provided.
③ Applicants who graduated from a full Chinese-medium high school program before September 1, 2024, must submit the required HSK certificate and HSKK score report as specified above.
(2) For English-taught Programs: An IELTS (academic) score of 5.5 or above, or a TOEFL iBT score of 72 or above is required.
① The test date on the score report must be after September 1, 2024.
② Applicants whose entire higher secondary school curriculum and teaching-related activities were conducted entirely in English may be exempt from submitting IELTS or TOEFL score reports. However, a certificate issued and officially stamped/signed by the school confirming that all courses and teaching activities were conducted entirely in English must be provided.
③ Applicants who graduated from a full English-medium high school program before September 1, 2024, must submit the required IELTS or TOEFL score report as specified above.
* If notified by Donghua University via email to take a language test or interview during the "Under Review" stage, applicants should respond and participate as scheduled. The results will serve as an important reference for the university's decision. Admitted students must provide the original language certificate for verification during the registration and enrollment in the coming September.
4. CSCA Score Report (China Scholastic Competency Assessment)
(1) For Chinese-taught Programs: Mandatory subjects are Professional Chinese (Humanities) or Professional Chinese (STEM), as well as Mathematics. Other required subjects should be checked here: 2026 Undergraduate Major List or the 2026 DHU-List of CSCA Test Subjects. All subjects must be answered using the Chinese test paper.
(2) For English-taught Programs: Mandatory subject is Mathematics, and it must be answered using the English test paper.
(3) Visit https://csca.cn/home to check exam schedules, register online, take the test, and check the score report (within 1-2 weeks after the exam), etc.
5. Personal Statement
(1) Written in the teaching language of the applied DHU program, approximately 1000 words.
(2) Describe family background and educational experience, reasons for choosing the major and motivation for application, significant experiences and gains related to the applied major, academic and career prospects and plans, etc., to showcase personal thoughts and characteristics, abilities, and strengths.
(3) Must include the applicant's full name, the applied major, personal email address, and the date of writing at the end of the statement.
6. Personal Resume
(1) Written in the teaching language of the applied DHU program.
(2) Include basic personal information, self-assessment, hobbies and interests, skills and strengths, contact details, and educational background (with timelines precise to the month).
(3) List participation in relevant activities or competitions, internships or practical experiences, honors or awards received, and certificates of competency, etc. Relevant certificates and supporting documents can be merged into one PDF file and uploaded under "Other Supplementary Documents" session.
7. Certificate of No Criminal Conviction
Issued by the local public security authority or relevant government department in the applicant's location. The issue date should be on or after November 1, 2025.
8. Statement of Financial Support
(1) Download from https://english.dhu.edu.cn/brochures/list.htm, to be filled out and signed by the applicant and the financial guarantor. The signing date should be on or after November 1, 2025.
(2) Scholarship applicants must also have this form filled out and signed by a financial guarantor to ensure coverage of costs beyond the scholarship scope.
9. Other Supplementary Documents (if applicable)
Other materials that can demonstrate personal capabilities, strengths, or special skills, such as recommendation letters, previously received awards and honor certificates, and scholarship proofs, etc. Relevant documents can be merged into one PDF file before uploading.
→ Mandatory for application of art design related programs
1. Applicants for the Chinese-taught program majored in Fashion & Apparel Design, Product Design, Environmental Design, Visual Communication Design, Digital Media Art, or Art & Technology, you are required to submit the original latest art works: at least two hand-painted pencil sketch, two hand-painted color painting, and three design rendering relating to the applied program.
2. For applications to the two English-taught programs, a video-formatted personal art portfolio must be submitted. The video should feature explanations in English, covering the applicant's design concepts, demonstrating their understanding of professional knowledge, mastery of skills, and creativity, with a duration of approximately 3 minutes.
3. If notified by Donghua University via email to participate in an art examination or related interview (latest by June), applicants should respond and participate as scheduled. The results will serve as an important reference for the university's decision.
→ Requirements for the following cases:
(1) Applicants under the age of 18 should submit a Guarantee Statement filled and signed by the legal adult guardians living in mainland China. A template can be downloaded from https://english.dhu.edu.cn/brochures/list.htm.
(2) The following applicants should provide the passports, all the visa pages, exit and entry stamp pages on the passport, proof of naturalization, documentation of cancellation/rescission Chinese citizenship or evidence of being foreign citizens at birth, proof of parental nationality. Additional documents may be required.
① Applicants who emigrate from mainland China, Hongkong, Taiwan, Macao, and have obtained a foreign nationality.
② Applicants who acquired a foreign nationality at the time of birth, and whose parents (either or both) hold Chinese nationality and reside abroad.
③ Applicants who have spent (part of) their secondary education in the mainland China, HK, TW or MC.
→ Mandatory Documents for Scholarship Applications:
1. Chinese Government Scholarship Application Form (CGS Category Type A only):
(1) After applying on the CGS official website https://www.campuschina.org, download the application form and sign it by the applicant.
(2) In the Donghua University online application https://admissions.dhu.edu.cn, under "Source of Funding", select "CGS-Category Type A", and fill in the CGS Application Form No. (found in the footer) and the corresponding agency number. Then upload the signed CGS Application Form.
2. Shanghai Government Scholarship (SGS) Application Form: Not required. No need to apply on the SGS official website. Simply select "CGS-Category Type B or SGS" under "Source of Funding" in the Donghua University online application https://admissions.dhu.edu.cn.
3. Two recommendation letters: Written in English or Chinese by two different teachers or tutors of your high school, include their names, workplace and department, titles, signatures and contact details (especially email address). Issue date included in the end of letter, and shall be after September 1, 2024.
4. Foreigner Physical Examination Form and Supplementary Reports:
(1) Download the Foreigner Physical Examination Form from https://english.dhu.edu.cn/brochures/list.htm
(2) Arrange an appointment at a local hospital on or after November 1, 2025. Undergo all examination items listed in the form strictly. The attending doctor must fill out the form based on the results, provide a clear conclusion, sign, stamp the form, indicate the date.
(3) The Foreigner Physical Examination Form will be considered invalid if any required item is missing, if your photo is not attached, or if the photo is not affixed with a hospital seal (stamped across the corner of the photo).
(4) When uploading the Foreigner Physical Examination Form, please attach the corresponding laboratory reports and other supplementary examination reports.
