Advanced Fiber Materials Designated as a Top-Tier Journal in CAS Materials Science Category for 2025

Date:2025-03-21

The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) Documentation and Information Center recently published its 2025 Journal Ranking Report. Advanced Fiber Materials has been ranked in the Q1 category of CAS journals and recognized as a leading journal in the Materials Science field. Since 2022, the journal has consistently been ranked in the CAS Q1 category.

Since its inception, the journal has been committed to publishing high-quality research in the field of fiber materials, covering a broad spectrum of topics from fundamental science to applied technologies. This recognition is not only a testament to the team’s previous efforts but also a powerful motivator for the journal’s future growth. With a focus on professionalism and innovation, the journal will continue to enhance its quality and impact, aiming to make even greater contributions to academic exchange and the dissemination of research in the fiber materials field.

The CAS Journal Quartiles is an evaluation system developed by the CAS Documentation and Information Center, based on metrics such as the Journal Impact Factor from the Science Citation Index (SCI) database. This system is primarily used to assess the academic influence of scholarly journals, helping researchers and institutions discern a journal’s quality and its standing within the respective field.

Introduction to the Journal

Launched in 2019, Advanced Fiber Materials is overseen by the Ministry of Education of China, sponsored by Donghua University, and co-organized by the Chinese Materials Research Society, with global publication and distribution handled by Springer Nature. The journal was initiated by the School of Materials Science and Engineering at DHU and the State Key Laboratory of Advanced Fiber Materials (formerly the State Key Laboratory for Modification of Chemical Fibers and Polymer Materials). Positioned as an international, interdisciplinary, and high-quality academic journal, it aims to publish cutting-edge research and high-level achievements in both fundamental studies and cross-disciplinary applications of fiber materials. The journal is currently indexed in several major databases, including SCIE, EI, and Scopus.

The Editor-in-Chief of the journal is Professor ZHU Meifang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and professor at Donghua University. The Executive Associate Editor is Professor CHEN Zhigang from Donghua University. The journal has seven Associate Editors: Professor Takeshi Kikutani (Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan), Professor Tianxi Liu (Jiangnan University, China), Professor Yan Lu (Potsdam University / Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin for Materials and Energy, Berlin, Germany), Professor Seeram Ramakrishna (National University of Singapore), Professor Guangming Tao (Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China), Professor Xiangwu Zhang (North Carolina State University, USA), and Professor Pierre-Alexis Mouthuy (University of Oxford, UK). The editorial board includes 22 academicians from China and abroad, as well as 24 leading scientists around the world. Since its inception in 2019, the journal has rapidly grown, with strong support from its editorial board, reviewers, authors, readers, and colleagues in both the scientific community and industry.

Milestones of the Journal

In 2021, the journal was included in the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) in May; selected for the “High-Starting-Point New Journals under the China Science and Technology Journal Excellence Plan” in September; and indexed in the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) in December.

In 2022, the journey was included in Scopus in January; received its first Impact Factor of 12.958 from Clarivate in June, ranking in the top 10% globally in the JCR category “Materials Science, Multidisciplinary” and ranked first in “Materials Science, Textiles” (Q1); was designated as a Q1 journal in the CAS rankings; and was indexed in the Engineering Index (EI) in December.

In 2023, the journal received an Impact Factor of 16.1 from Clarivate in June, rising to the top 6% globally in “Materials Science, Multidisciplinary” and maintaining the top rank in “Materials Science, Textiles”; was again designated as a Q1 journal in the CAS rankings in December; and was officially approved for a domestic publication serial number (CN31-2199/TB), enabling simultaneous domestic and international publication and distribution.

In 2024, the journal was highly commended in a dedicated column by People’s Daily in January for “focusing on cutting-edge technology and striving for excellence”; achieved a CiteScore of 18.7 in June; received the latest Impact Factor of 17.2 from Clarivate in the same month, maintaining its top 6% position globally in "Materials Science, Multidisciplinary" and first rank in "Materials Science, Textiles"; and was selected for the “China STM Journals’ Excellence Action Plan English Language Echelon Project” in November.

In 2025, the journal was designated as a Top Journal in the Q1 zone for the Materials Science category in the 2025 CAS Journal Ranking Report in March.
