The 22nd Greater Donghua Fashion Week & Outstanding Graduates’ Works Exhibitions and Shows Opens

On April 7, the 22nd Greater Donghua Fashion Week & Outstanding Graduates’ Works Exhibitions and Shows commenced at Yan’an Road Campus of DHU.


The opening ceremony was attended by Gu Hongliang, Deputy Director of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Education (SMCE), Zhao Yang, Division Director of the Communication Division of Education and Health Commission of Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China; Chen Wenshan, Division Director of the Consumer Products and Fashion Industry Division of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization, as well as DHU leaders including Liu Chenggong, Party Secretary, Xiang Yanxun, Principal, and Yan Linping, Vice Principal. The event also welcomed Guillermo Gar-Badellcía, Dean of the School of Design at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), Spain, along with over 300 representatives from design institutions, renowned enterprises, professional organizations, relevant DHU departments and faculties. The opening ceremony was presided over by Sun Jie, Dean of the College of Fashion and Design.

DHU, aligning with national strategies and Shanghai’s socio-economic development goals, is accelerating the construction of disciplinary clusters and has achieved rapid progress in design-related fields. Greater Donghua Fashion Week, upholding the philosophy of innovation, integration, and leadership, serves as a flagship initiative that preserves Shanghai-style culture and supports Shanghai’s Three Centers initiative (design center, fashion center and brand center). Focusing on fashion design for smart industrial transformation and future societal life, DHU is advancing fashion technologies, business forms and models with distinctive “Donghua characteristics,” providing intellectual and creative support for China’s fashion industry.

Apparel culture represents a vital component of fine traditional Chinese Culture. During the opening ceremony, 14 universities in Shanghai reviewed the highlights of the Shanghai Collegiate Alliance for Apparel Culture Education throughout 2024. Institutions including Fudan University and East China Normal University will also participate in creative bazaars and other activities during the Greater Donghua Fashion Week. Moving forward, member universities will continue to pool wisdom and resources to open a new chapter in fashion-oriented education.

Under the guidance and support of SMCE, the Alliance, since its establishment in 2024, has been dedicated to promoting the inheritance and innovation of Chinese culture, particularly its apparel culture. It builds platforms to facilitate exchanges in apparel culture and cultivate

talents.

Award-Winning Designers

The 10th DHU’s Emerging Designers Collection made its debut at the opening ceremony. Under the design theme of Unrestrained Growth, the showcase highlighted sustainable fashion for environmental conservation, material innovation with cutting-edge technologies, as well as traditional craftsmanship fused with future tech. This comprehensive presentation demonstrated emerging designers’ boundless imagination for the future of fashion and their acute insight into the transformations of our time.

The 22nd Greater Donghua Fashion Week 2025, under the theme “Intelligence Ignites the Future, Innovation Fuels Growth”, reflects DHU’s forward-looking vision for the fashion industry in the digital and intelligent era. This theme also embodies DHUers’ multidimensional considerations and practices in technological empowerment, sustainable advancement, humanistic care, and industrial transformation.
