"What is garment?" "What is fashion?" "What is costume culture?" "What is the route of the fashion industry?"... You can find answers to these questions in Fashion Awakening: Thirty Insights into the Golden Decade of China's Garment Industry. On January 9, this book, published by Donghua University Press, was released in Beijing Book Fair(BBF). As one of the special events of the 2025 Beijing Order Fair, the launch event attracted experts and scholars in the cultural heritage sector, deans of textile and clothing colleges from various universities, renowned designers, famous journalists, heads of newspapers and research centers in the clothing publishing industry, chairmen of enterprise groups, well-known fashion models, and others to come togethergather and celebrate the fascinating integration of clothing art, tech-fashion, and academic culture.

The "Golden Decade" refers to the "Seventh Five-Year Plan" and "Eighth Five-Year Plan" periods that range from 1985 to 1995, during which numerous Chinese garment enterprises played a decisive role, exploring and continuouslyinnovating in hard practice. The book is richly illustrated and deeply focuses on thirty key questions from the golden decade of China's garment industry, providing an insightful analysis of the industry's development trajectory and hidden mysteries during this period. It combines theory with practice, serving as both a summary and reflection on the rise of China's garment industry. Moreover, it is a brilliant reproduction of the thinking methods employed by industry practitioners throughout their journey of exploration, practice, and innovation, presenting readers with a valuable industry revelation.

In 1986, China held its first-ever clothing fashion trend release event - "China's Spring-Summer in 1987 Clothing Fashion Trends", marking the first step in "predicting fashion trends". In 2003, a Chinese apparel fashion show was held on the famous Champs Elysees in Paris, France, showcasing the profound depth of Chinese costume culture to the world. This was also the first time that a foreign fashion cultural performance had been held there. The author of the book, Tan An, nicknamed "Old Student", once served as the deputy director of the China Clothing Research and Design Center, and the chief of China Garment and Journal of Clothing Science and Technology. "During the golden decade of reform and opening-up policy, China's garment industry advanced along the route with science, technology, culture and art all integrated, basically establishing a full industry chain for Chinese clothing, winning a competitive position for Made in China over the world," introduced Tan An. Both the explorative practice and theoretical changes in business of China's garment industry during the golden decade and the path of innovative development in the fashion industry have been recorded in the book, which also opens up a new cognitive perspective for readers.

Ji Xiaofeng, the president of the China Textile and Apparel Education Society(CTAES), mentioned that over the past four decades, China's textile and garment industry has transitioned from overcoming shortages to becoming the world's largest textile producer, exporter, and consumer, and then to continuous transformation and upgrading, achieving remarkable accomplishments. "Fashion Awakening: Thirty Insights into the Golden Decade of China's Garment Industry", published by Donghua University Press, faithfully records the magnificence of industrial development, paying tribute to the practitioners who have struggled on the front lines of the industry.

As a professional academic publishing institution focusing on the textile and clothing field, the Donghua University Press editing and proofreading team meticulously worked on the book, carefully crafting every aspect from cover design, internal text layout, to paper selection, printing, and binding, putting the book's perfect quality into priority. Ultimately, this masterpiece, embodying industry wisdom and the memory of the times, has been published and become a worthy witness of the times.

The launch event for "Fashion Awakening: Thirty Insights into the Golden Decade of China's Garment Industry" has opened a new chapter for the knowledge inheriting and cross-border expanding of China's garment industry.
