DHU Participate in the Special Exhibition of Chinese Contemporary Art Ceramics

Date:2024-09-26

From September 16 to 24, the "'Nouvelle Porcelaine New China—Special Exhibition of Chinese Contemporary Art Ceramics Special Exhibition" is being held at the China Cultural Center in Paris, France. The exhibition is co-hosted by the China Cultural Center in Paris and the China Ceramic Artists’Association of Shanghai, showcasing 60 pieces of contemporary ceramic art that vividly display the unique charm of Chinese ceramic art. Professor Zhao Qiang from the Department of Environmental Design at College of Fashion andDesign was invited as an academic expert to host the '2024 Nouvelle Porcelaine NEW CHINA Art Forum,' and his work 'Water Color Series' was selected for the special exhibition.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France; this year is also the China-France Culture and Tourism Year. Ceramics is a cultural hallmark of China; it is not only an essential component of traditional Chinese culture but also a significant achievement in the history of human civilization. As a continuation of ancient Chinese ceramics, modern art ceramics (New Porcelain) not only showcase the profound heritage of traditional culture but have also become one of the most important artistic carriers for interpreting the innovative development of contemporary Chinese culture. Professor Zhao Qiang's work "Water Color Series" employs the technique of blue-and-white watercolor technique and utilizes a method of deconstruction and reconstruction in its creation. This approach reorganizes and reinterprets the scenes observed in daily life, resulting in a brand new visual presentation. At the same time, it has achieved a breakthrough in the application of traditional blue-and-white watercolor technique.

Concurrent with the special exhibition, the "2024 Nouvelle Porcelaine Art Forum", co-hosted by Chinese and French ceramic scholars, is also being held. Professor Zhao Qiang, as the academic host, connects the two main segments of this forum: the individual presentations by artists and the roundtable discussion, while sharing his ideas about ceramic creation with both Chinese and international artists. Ceramics, as a language that embodies both national and international characteristics, serves as an important bridge between Chinese culture and other cultures. This event allows more French audiences to appreciate the development of contemporary Chinese ceramic art, inspires the creativity of ceramic artists, and promotes communication, collaboration, and shared prosperity in the field of ceramic art between China and France.
