Recently, the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization announced the list of Design Innovation Centers at municipal level for 2023. After expert review and evaluation, the Design Innovation Center of College of Fashion and Design at Donghua University was officially awarded the title of “Shanghai Design Innovation Center”.
In 2020, the Industrial Design Center of College of Fashion and Design of Donghua University was approved as the “Shanghai Industrial Design Center” by the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization. After more than three years of development, it has been further evaluated and approved as the “Shanghai Design Innovation Center” this year. The center focuses on technological innovation in fashion as its leading aspect and fashion art design as its core, leveraging its distinctive advantages in product design within the design discipline. Through multidimensional interactions among “art, technology, design, and engineering”, it engages in interdisciplinary, industry-academia-research integrated design social innovation services. The center has achieved a series of accomplishments in areas such as “fashion lifestyle product design”, “product interaction experience design” and “social cultural innovation design”. By empowering design innovation and knowledge, it has supported the product development and industrial upgrading of over a hundred domestic and international enterprises. Its design works have won numerous prestigious awards, including the German Red Dot Design Awards, the German iF Design Awards, the American International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA), the American GOOD Design Awards, the Italian A’ Design Gold Awards and Competition, the European Product Design TOP Awards, the China Red Star Design Awards, the Korean K-Design Gold Awards, the American SPARK Design Awards, the American MUSE Design Gold Awards, and the Shanghai Design 100+, among over a hundred other renowned domestic and international design awards.
The Design Innovation Center of College of Fashion and Design, along with the “Key Laboratory of Modern Fashion Design and Technology of the Ministry of Education” and the “Collaborative Innovation Center for Shanghai Fashion Design and Value Creation”, constitutes the research base framework of the university in the field of fashion technology and design. It provides essential support for establishing a new stage, implementing new concepts, and constructing a high-quality development pattern led by disciplines.
