The Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering (SAMPE) was founded in 1944, with its headquarters located in Covina, California, USA. It originated as a nonprofit international professional society focused on the research and development of aerospace composite materials, and its primary focus remains on advanced composite materials.

SAMPE China Mainland Region was officially established in November 2015 as one of the registered member units of SAMPE's global network spanning over 40 countries or regions. Currently, it includes Beijing Chapter (established in 1990), Shanghai Chapter (established in 1994), Chengdu Chapter (established in 2017), and student chapters from Harbin Engineering University, Donghua University, and Tiangong University.
