The work was created by a visual multimedia design team led by Associate Professor Wu Liang from the Department of Visual Communication. It was previously featured as part of the grand showcase “FASHION FROM THE ORIENT” at the 2023 World Design Capitals Conference (WDCC). The creative team boldly reinterpreted the metaverse-inspired show scene with traditional oriental culture elements, assembling a massive spacecraft, “The Magic Ship of The Orient”, using Chinese folding fans, pipa (a Chinese musical instrument), and engines. Through the use of 3D animation, AIGC, and naked eye 3D technology, the video led the audience through a journey across time and space, showcasing dynamic scroll paintings of landscapes, the myth of phoenix, the gardens of Jiangnan, Shikumen architecture, and contemporary Shanghai. In the background of the fashion show, the team employed AI-generated large-scale animations that synchronously added glamour to more than 60 sets of live model displays, portraying the inspirational elements of apparel design. With its stunning audiovisual experience, the work seamlessly integrated real and virtual elements for the performance of the clothing pieces, along with livestreaming, bringing a fashionable feast with digital art to both online and offline audiences.
