In July 2022, the first PCR laboratory in Shanghai’s higher education institutions was established and put into operation at Donghua University. The PCR laboratory is built with the support of the College of Biomedical Science and Medical Engineering and the infirmary of our university. After going through rigorous approval procedures such as filing as a P2 pathogenic microorganism laboratory, technical acceptance as a PCR laboratory, and clinical application filing for restricted medical technology, the laboratory, as proved, is able to independently undertake approved nucleic acid testing for infectious diseases.

To fully utilize the resources of PCR laboratory and give full play to the role of laboratory in teaching, research and education, this year, the College of Biological Science and Medical Engineering has actively promoted the functional restructuring of the laboratory, and reached a strategic cooperation with Sangon Biotech to establish a joint innovation center. At present, the laboratory has initially built an education base for biomedical discipline (mainly to showcase the great practice of anti-Covid efforts and the work to popularize virology knowledge), industry-teaching integrated innovation and practice base for nucleic acid molecular detection technology (mainly to engage in the teaching of nucleic acid detection technology courses and labor education courses and carry out innovative practices), nucleic acid drug research center (mainly to work on industry-university research cooperation in mRNA vaccine drug technology) and immunochromatographic detection technology laboratory (mainly involves disease prevention and early screening technology and product application research).
