World No. 1! One Subject at DHU Leads the World

On October 27, the 24th China Annual Conference for International Education (CACIE2023) took place in Beijing, where Shanghai Ranking, the renowned higher education evaluation institution, officially unveiled its Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) 2023. More than 1,900universities across 104 countries and regions are finally listed in the rankings.


Notably, 333 universities from the Chinese mainland were listed, accumulating a total of 3,390 times of all subjects appearing in the league table, second only to the United States, ranking as a global runner-up. In terms of the strongest subjects, universities from the Chinese mainland reached a new high by leading the world in 17 subjects, the highest number globally.


This year witnessed the addition of three “world-first” subjects in China. Among them, DHU claimed the top position in Textile Science and Engineering, which was released for the first time.



It is worth mentioning that universities in Shanghai excelled with three world-leading subjects, including Civil Engineering at Tongji University, Marine and Ocean Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Textile Science and Engineering at Donghua University.


The Global Ranking of Academic Subjects employs a range of objective academic indicators that are internationally comparable to assess global universities’ performance in their respective fields. These ranking criteria encompass international academic awards, top academic achievements, high-quality research output, research quality, and international collaboration.
