China International Fashion Fair (Spring), Asia’s largest and most influential professional fashion trade show, was held from March 28 to 30 in the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai). The North Hall, Chinese Style Section featured an exhibition of restored costume of China’s Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD) under the theme of Retrospect on Origin·Brocade for Celestial, which was curated by Shanghai (Donghua University) Museum of Textile and Costume.

The Tang Dynasty, one of the most prosperous Chinese dynasties, is a golden age of Chinese arts and culture with international influence. The exhibition displayed five pieces of restored Tang costume, among which, three were women’s and two were men’s. They revealed the history of Tang costume and reflected the inclusive and diversified culture of the Tang Dynasty. “We’re really impressed by ancient people’s wisdom and aesthetics,” the visitors said.

The exhibition was the fruit of the DHU museum’s thorough research and investigations into historical materials and archaeological discoveries, including  ancient murals and tomb figurines. Bian Xiangyang, curator of the museum, said “Only by looking back on the origin can we face the future. This exhibition shows the Chinese-style beauty thousands of years ago. I hope it can spark a passion for an innovative Chinese style.
