Five International Highlights of DHU Research Achievements in Environmental Protection and Medicine

The past two years has seen prolific DHU research results, many of which have made their appearance in international journals. The following are five research achievements in environmental protection and medicine reached by DHU's teams.


Prof. Liu Yanbiao's Team from the College of Environmental Science and Engineering

Prof. Liu Yanbiao's team from the College of Environmental Science and Engineering, in cooperation with Researcher Liu Wen's team from Peking University, published the research article "Silicate Enhanced Heterogeneous Flow-through Electro-Fenton System Using Iron Oxides under Nanoconfinement" in Environmental Science & Technology. The article demonstrates a silicate-enhanced flow-through electro-Fenton system, which has the advantages of high H2O2 yield, fast reaction kinetics, catalyst stability, etc. It provides a novel nanoconfined flow-through electro-Fenton system that has broad application prospects and sheds light on the removal of low-concentration organic water pollutants.

Prof. Qiao Jinli's Team from the College of Environmental Science and Engineering

Prof. Qiao Jinli's team from the College of Environmental Science and Engineering has made significant progress in the electrocatalytic reduction of CO2. The study, "Separated Growth of Bi-Cu Bimetallic Electrocatalysts on Defective Copper Foam for Highly Converting CO2 to Formate with Alkaline Anion-Exchange Membrane beyond KHCO3 Electrolyte," was published in Applied Catalysis B: Environmental, with Peng Luwei, a doctoral student, as the first author.


The electrocatalytic reduction of CO2 to high value-added fuels and chemicals is an effective approach to solving environmental problems(e.g. global warming and climate change), and storing Intermittent renewable energy.


Prof. Qiao's team also made achievements in carbon-based metal-free bifunctional oxygen catalysts. Its study, "Large-Scale Defect-Engineering Tailored Tri-Doped Graphene as a Metal-Free Bifunctional Catalyst for Superior Electrocatalytic Oxygen Reaction in Rechargeable Zn-Air Battery," was published in Applied Catalysis B: Environmental, with Wang Yongxia, a teacher at the College of Environmental Science and Engineering, as the first author. It provides new insights into the developments of high-performance non-metallic doped graphene bifunctional oxygen catalysts.

Prof. Shi Xiangyang's team from the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering

Prof. Shi Xiangyang's team from the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering(CCCE) made critical headway in long-acting chemotherapy and anti-metastasis therapy. The study was published in Nano Today, entitled "Multifunctional PLGA Microfibrous Rings Enable MR Imaging-Guided Tumor Chemotherapy and Metastasis Inhibition through Prevention of Circulating Tumor Cell Shedding." DHU is the first affiliation; Xiao Yunchao and Fan Yu, two doctoral students from the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, are co-first authors.


The multifunctional fibrous rings designed by the team enables simultaneous inhibition of tumors and tumor metastasis, which have much potential for cancer therapy.

Prof. Wang Lu's Team from the College of Textiles

Bioresorbable stents are promisingfor treating pediatric patients with congenital vascular stenosis. Based on this field's needs, DHU's research team from the College of Textiles developed a mechanically self-reinforced composite bioresorbable stent. The related study was published in Bioactive Materials, titled "Development of a Polycaprolactone/Poly(p-dioxanone) Bioresorbable Stent with Mechanically Self-Reinforced Structure for Congenital Heart Disease Treatment." The co-first authors are Zhao Fan, a doctoral graduate from the College of Textiles, and Sun Jing, a doctor from Xihua Hospital, Shanghai; the corresponding authors are Prof. Wang Lu from DHU, Wang Fujun, a professor of engineering in DHU, and Sun Kun, Dean of Xihua Hospital.
