Date:2022-08-11

Recently, Prof. Qiao Jinli's research team at the College of Environmental Science and Engineering has made vital progress in the field of electrocatalytic reduction of CO2 in collaboration with Prof. Huang Haitao's team at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The research resultTin-Doped Bismuth Dendrites for Highly Efficient Electrocatalytic Reduction of CO2 by Using Bipolar Membrane in Ultrathin Liquid Reactor was published in Ecomat. The first author is Peng Luwei, a PhD student at the College of Environmental Science and Engineering.

Electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) to form high value-added fuels and chemicals is a promising carbon conversion protocol. Formic acid, a product of CO2RR, is an advantageous pharmaceutical and chemical feedstock and an ideal hydrogen carrier and liquid fuel. Prof. Qiao's team has proposed a strategy to regulate the growth of Sn-doped Bi dendritic electrode and developed a bipolar membrane for efficient conversion of CO2 into formate. The research provides insights into the design of electrocatalysts, bipolar membrane, and ultrathin liquid reactors for CO2RR technology development.
