In-Person Study in the Classroom
I. Program Features
Study at the center of Shanghai: Study at West Yan'An Road Campus, Donghua University, enjoying decent public transportation and well-equipped facilities.
Focus on language applications: We adopt the self-compiled textbook "Chinese in Real Life", which is more suitable for international students' life in China. We also consider the application of the Chinese language in daily life and preparing for HSK tests.
Integration of language learning and cultural understanding: We offer an introduction to Chinese culture, cultural lectures, and practical activities to deepen students' knowledge of Mandarin Chinese.
Rich online learning materials: We offer various Chinese learning materials, including keywords, language points, recorded videos, dialogue videos, audio, course summaries, etc. In addition, all Learning materials and assignments will be uploaded to the learning management platform; students in online and offline courses can review the contents at any time.
Various Course Levels: We can provide different levels of courses to meet multiple Chinese proficiency levels, from beginners to HSK6 learners.
Assistant Support: We assign Chinese teachers or DHU Chinese students to each class as assistants to provide additional support for international students.
Quality Accreditation: We are the only language program in China accredited by EAQUALS, guaranteeing consistency and quality in our teaching methods.
II. Program Details
Course Schedule
2023 Fall Semester: September 11th, 2023 - January 12th, 2024 (18 weeks)
2024 Spring Semester (tentative): March 4th, 2024 - July 5th, 2024 (18 weeks)
Application deadline
2023 Fall Semester: July 9th, 2023
2024 Spring Semester (tentative): December 31st , 2023
Class time: 9:00 AM - 12:15 PM Beijing Time, Monday to Friday (Except for holidays and exceptional circumstances);
Small class: Less than 25 people per class;
Levels: Beginner, Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced with a maximum of 8 levels. Students have to take a placement test to evaluate their Chinese proficiency, and they will be divided into different classes based on the test result.

III. Fees
Application fee: CNY 400
Tuition: CNY 10,200 per semester
Preferential policy:
The applicant who never studied at DHU before and is recommended by an international student who used to study or is studying at DHU will enjoy application fee waivers. The referee's passport name should be provided accurately during the application.

IV. Application
Age Eligibility:16-60 years old
Application procedure
Apply online via https://admissions.dhu.edu.cn/index with your personal information and the chosen language program;
Upload the required document; ensure that you enclose all scanned documents clearly.
Scanned passport information page (Chinese visa page is also required if you are in China)
One bareheaded electronic ID photo
University will email you and review your application once we receive your admission fee. We may ask you to submit additional information if necessary.
Wait for your admission result with patience. We aim to give you a decision via email within 10 working days. However, it may be delayed due to the volume of applications received or other reasons.
V. Others
Textbooks: Self-compiled textbooks of Chinese in Real Life with online supplementary learning materials will be used.
Visa: Documents for the student visa and Residence Permit (Study) application will be provided to the student case by case. Please consult the office for details.
Accommodation: Students can apply for campus accommodation, which will be arranged according to the situation. If the reservation is confirmed, please check in during the designated time as required. Please note that the ever-changing situation means that you may have to stay in off-campus accommodation. Please follow our official notice and the emails.
Insurance: Following the regulations from the Ministry of Education of China, and to better protect international students studying in China, international students are required to purchase insurance, of which the validity should be enough to cover one's study duration. DHU full-time students should pay the insurance during the registration, which is CNY 400 per semester. For further information, please check our website.
Refund
Application fee: Non-refundable;
Tuition: Full refund: study terminated before instruction starts.
50% refund: study terminated in the 1st week of study.
NO refund will be accepted from the 2nd week of study.
Class arrangement
Students have to take a placement test to evaluate their Chinese proficiency, and they will be divided into different levels based on the test result.
In the 1st week, students are allowed to change the course level within a specific timeframe.
