The year 2020 marks the tenth anniversary of Shanghai joining the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN), and being awarded the title of “City of Design”. On the morning of November 20, the 10th Anniversary Celebration of Shanghai as City of Design kicked off at the Shanghai Exhibition Center. The event was co-sponsored by the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization and the Office of Shanghai Cultural and Creative Industry Promotion Leadership Group. DHU is among the cosponsors. Principal Yu Jianyong attended the opening ceremony and the main forum, and visited the Achievement Retrospective Exhibition of 10th Anniversary Celebration of Shanghai as the City of Design.
At the opening ceremony, Yu Jianyong started the award ceremony of the Emerging Design Innovation Prize initiated by the World Design Academy Alliance. At the conference, Shanghai announced the establishment of the World Design Academy Alliance, which is composed of 9 domestic universities and colleges of design including DHU, and 7 internationally renowned universities and colleges of design including Rhode Island School of Design, Royal College of Art and University of the Arts London.

At the Achievement Retrospective Exhibition of 10th Anniversary Celebration of Shanghai as City of Design, Liu Canming and Luo Jingjie, teachers of the Fashion & Art Design School of DHU, and top 10 fashion designers in China, were selected as the representative figures of Shanghai’s fashion design power in the past decade. Three groups of creative fashion design works by Wang Jiefei, Zuo Sitong, and Cheng Yuxin majoring in Fashion Design were exhibited as the representative works of the 10th anniversary theme event “Design make the life better” in the form of “Visions of Emerging Designers”.

It is learned that since this April, the Scientific Research Institute has organized related colleges and departments of fashion and design disciplines, including Fashion & Art Design School, the Glorious Sun School of Business and Management, the Fashion Creative Industry Development Research Center, the Fashion Science and Technology Innovation Center, the Shanghai International College of Fashion and Innovation, the Shanghai Promotion Center for City of Fashion, and the Shanghai Textile Museum, the Humanities School , the School of Mechanical Engineering, to actively participate in the preparation of the theme activities and work together to make suggestions and contribute professional wisdom to the theme activities of 10th Anniversary Celebration of Shanghai as City of Design. This “Donghua Week” series of activities have received widespread attention from the industry and society. They have been widely reported and spread by many central and local mainstream media, which has further enhanced DHU’s social reputation and influence.
