Recently, the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) announced its list of 35 newly elected fellows, among which seven are from China, including Professor Zhu Meifang, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and director of the State Key Laboratory for Modification of Chemical Fibers and Polymer Materials (SKLFPM), DHU.
Zhu Meifang, female, born in 1965, professor, doctoral supervisor, expert in fiber material science, currently serves as the director of the SKLFPM and dean of the College of Material Science & Engineering of DHU. In 2019, she was elected as the Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. She has long been engaged in the research of the functionalization, comfortability and intelligentization of fiber materials, and achieved systematic and innovative results. She proposed and established functionalized design thinking and a whole-process technical system for thermoplastic polymer fibers, solved the problem of enabling synthetic fibers to be both functional and comfortable, and devised a new method for mesoscopically induced smart fiber preparation. She has made outstanding contributions to the improvements of fiber quality “from low to high” and the fiber industry “from big to strong” in China.
The World Academy of Sciences for the advancement of science in developing countries (the World Academy of Sciences, TWAS for short), was formerly known as the Third World Academy of Sciences. Founded in November 10, 1983, and headquartered in Trieste, Italy, it is a non-government, non-political, and non-profit international scientific organization initiated by Abdus Salam, the Pakistani physicist and Nobel laureate in Physics.
