On March 10, the results of Young Designers Competition at the Cracow Fashion Week were unveiled in the cultural-rich Cracow of Poland, a fashion capital credited as “New Bohemian Center”. Students Wang Jiefei and Hou Wenwen fromthe Fashion • Art Design Institute of Donghua University werepresented with the grand prize by the organizing committee of the competition, becoming the first Asia-borndesigners to win such award. Professor Chen Bin, togetherwith designers and stylists from countriesincluding Britain, Italy, U.S., Canada and the Netherlands, acted as a judge of the competition.
First founded in 2010, the Cracow Fashion Week is held by the municipal government of Cracow every March. It is a splendid event of creative designs, coveringactivities such as Young Designers Competition, Fashion Photography Exhibition, Creative Jewelry Design Exhibition, and Refashioning Show andgathering apparel professionals, media and fashion enthusiasts from all over the world.
The theme of this year’s fashion week is “Fashion and Ecology,” representing that the fast-changingfashionindustryis calling for more awareness of protecting the ecological environment.

Wang Jiefei’s work “Parallel Space” was instructed by Associate Professor Zhou Honglei and inspired by the 3D digital artwork “Was It Metaphysic” designed by Michele Durazzi, a visual artist from Florence, Italy, in which Wang created a super quiet atmosphere based on surrealism and minimalism to deliver a visual effect that interweaves reality and illusion.

Hou Wenwen’s work “The Aliens Wish You A Happy New Year” was instructed by Professor Chen Jianhui and drewinspirationfrom the Spring Festival in China. Hou broke the cultural boundaries between the tradition and the modernity byintegratingtraditionalelementsthatbode well such as characters, animal and auspicious patterns withtheimageof surreal aliens,endowing the work with a new cultural symbol in additionto the valueforappreciation.
