On May 21, Jiang Changjun, President of Donghua University (DHU), met with Prof. Charlie Jeffery, Senior Vice-Principal of the University of Edinburgh together with Prof. Natascha Gentz, Director of the Confucius Institute for Scotland in the University of Edinburgh and Assistant Principal China, and Dr. Yang Lixin, Head of the Chinese Office of the University of Edinburgh. Liu Chunhong, Vice President of DHU and relevant official from the International Cooperation Office also attended the meeting.

President Jiang extended his warm welcome to Prof. Charlie Jeffery. Both sides reviewed the increasingly in-depth cooperation and exchange between DHU and the University of Edinburgh. It’s worth noting that the Shanghai International College of Fashion and Innovation (SCF) jointly established by the two institutions has undergone rapid growth within merely three years, and obtained recognition and strong support from the Shanghai municipal government and the Changning District government in fashion design and cultural and creative areas. It is hoped that the two universities will be able to make greater contributions to the China-UK cultural exchanges in the field of creative design. Professor Jeffery said that DHU is the closest partner of the University of Edinburgh in respect of fashion and creative areas. The University of Edinburgh attaches great importance to educational cooperation pertaining to fashion with DHU. He hopes that the two sides will carry out more profound exchanges concerning creative design, which is conducive to the development and progress of the two universities, Shanghai and Edinburgh and even China and UK.

After the meeting, Professor Jeffery also participated in the 23rd International Fashion Forum of Shanghai International Fashion Culture Festival & the opening ceremony of 16th Greater Donghua Fashion Week and delivered a speech. Two days ago, Prof. Jeffrey, Prof. James Smith, Vice-Principal International of the University of Edinburgh and Prof. Natascha Gentz met with Vice President Liu Chunhong, and the delegation from the University of Edinburgh visited the SCF and learnt about the latest development of the college, highly praising the achievements made by DHU in the integration of science and technology and creative design. The two sides had an in-depth communication in terms of topics such as further optimizing the mode of cooperative schooling, launching a Qipao show in the Edinburgh International Art Festival and implementing training programs for China-UK high-end designers.

As one of the most important partner institutions of DHU, the University of Edinburgh is situated in Edinburgh, Scotland. It was founded in 1583 and is the sixth oldest university in English-speaking countries. Since 2014 when the SCF was established, the two universities co-found the Donghua-Edinburgh Center for Creative Industries last year, which was unveiled by

Justine Greening, the British Secretary of State for Education and Minister for Women and Equalities, and President Jiang Changjun.
