“We Donghua people are always bold in catering to special needs of state strategy and serving economic and social development,” said Li Jun, Dean of Fashion • Art Design Institute of Donghua University (DHU) and Head of DHU Spacesuit Research &Design Team, in the awarding ceremony of 2016 Shanghai Education News Personnel of the Year on February 11. The DHU Spacesuit Research & Design Team won the title of “2016 Shanghai Education News Personnel of the Year” and the Publicity Department of DHU Party Committee was honored with Organization Recommended Award.

Relying on the characteristic disciplines and spanning materials, textile and fashion, DHU Spacesuit Research & Design Team comprises of 14 teachers (Prof. Yu Jianyong, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, as the technical instructor of Team projects, and Prof. Li Jun as the head) and 12 doctoral students and postgraduates. The Teamhas always been committed to promoting the transformation and upgrading of fashion industry and pioneering the new arena of spacesuits.In 2016, the Team undertook the design and research of working suits concerning space, ground work and life for astronauts involved in the mission of “Tiangong-2” and “Shenzhou-11.” The Team and its research results caused wide concern and manifested themselves in reports by dozens of mainstream media (e.g., CCTV, Xinhua News Agency, Guangming Daily, Dragon TV and Phoenix TV) that were reproduced by hundreds of media. With a wide range of public awareness and social influence, the story of the Team naturallyjoins the rank of hot 2016 Shanghai education news.
It is reported that the selection activities of Shanghai Education News Personnel of the Year are held annually for the purpose of publicizing advanced figures and deeds that propel educational reform and development from Shanghai education system and all sectors of society. Since 2008 when the selection activities began to focus on institutions of higher learning, DHU has had several teams, teachers and students elected or nominated as news personnel, such as Professor Zhang Weiyuan - Father of Thermal Manikin, Professor Liu Xiaogang - Expo Fashion Designer, Professor Wang Yimin - Doctoral Advisor in Charge of Classes, Professor Chen Nanliang that weaves energy wing for “Tiangong-1,” student entrepreneur Ma Feifei, Gu Yijie – Thumb Girl, and Ke Sen – international student who loves to sing Chinese songs. They fully presented the charm of DHU teachers and students, playing a positive role in showing the image of DHU and carrying forward the spirit of DHU.
