US NAE Member Dr. Ray Baughman Conferred Advisory Professor of Donghua University

    On October 25, Dr. Ray Baughman, member of US National Academy of Engineering (NAE), Academician of Russian Academy of Natural Sciences and Director of NanoTech Institute at the University of Texas at Dallas, was appointed an advisory professor of Donghua University. Vice President Qing Fengling, together with relevant officials from Personnel Division and teacher and student representatives from the College of Material Science & Engineering, College of Textile and College of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering & Biotechnology, attended the appointment ceremony.

    Qing Fengling awarded the letter of appointment to Dr. Ray Baughman and then delivered a speech. He extended a warm welcome to Dr. Ray Baughman and looked forward to deeper exchanges and cooperation, specifically, to develop a new generation of low-cost and high-performance intelligent materials through the combination of Donghua’s high performance fiber preparation, advanced textile technology and feature disciplines of NanoTech Institute at the University of Texas at Dallas; to establish mechanism of young researchers’ mutual visit and jointly cultivate postgraduates; to propose strategic guidance and suggestions for Donghua’s discipline development and construction of State Key Laboratory for Modification of Chemical Fibers and Polymer Materials.

 

    Dr. Ray Baughman said, it is a great honor for him to become an advisory professor of Donghua University and is very pleased to make contributions to propelling the two sides’ exchanges and cooperation and promoting the development of Donghua University. Then, he gave a wonderful report with respect to the significance and current research progress of artificial intelligent materials and had a warm interaction with teachers and students.

 

    Dr. Ray Baughman has made remarkable research achievements in areas such as carbon nanomaterials, conductive polymer materials, artificial muscle materials, stored energy and energy conversion devices. He has over 400 publications, including over 20 articles published in Science and Nature, with over 45,000 citations and has 70 US patents. Due to his outstanding contributions in scientific research, Dr. Ray Baughman has received the Chemical Pioneer Award of the American Institute of Chemists, the Cooperative Research Award in Polymer Science and Engineering, and the New Materials Innovation Prize of the Avantex International Forum for Innovative Textiles.
