Editor: Teacher is the foundation of school, and teacher’s morality is the soul of education. On Donghua campus, every year many new teachers emerge in the teaching contest for young teachers to show their talents. In this harvest season, Donghua campus media including campus network, official WeChat and Weibo, campus newspaper jointly plans a special topic themed “Three Feet of Rostrum, The Daily Star,” expecting you to follow the campus reporters and give ear to teachers’ teaching attainments.

Personal Profile

Shen Bin, a lecturer of The Glorious Sun School of Business and Management, started work at DHU in 2004, and graduated with PhD in Fashion Operation and Management from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2013. Entitled “Pujiang Talent” and “Chenguang Scholar,” Shen Bin was invited by Textile Institute to go to Poland for attending the 90th Textile Institute World Conference and giving a keynote speech. What’s more, his dissertation won 2014 The Best Paper Awards issued by Textile Institute.

In September 2016, his course of Fashion Supply Chain Management won the first place in the Second Shanghai Teaching Contest for Young College Teachers (Non-Language Disciplines Taught in A Foreign Language); moreover he was honored as “Shanghai Teaching Expert.”

Fashion industry is changing all the time, and the system of its supply chain is exceedingly complex and diverse. Since China is a big fashion production and consumption country, how to effectively manage fashion supply chain is therefore tremendously important for domestic and foreign apparel enterprises. The course of Fashion Supply Chain Management is a “Philosophy of Life” lesson that discusses effective competition and cooperation between all parties within the industry.

During courses, I emphasize enhancing students’ ability to thoroughly master knowledge points. I hope this course will be able to provide students rational thinking directions and solutions when practical problems come. On the one hand, I prepare typical cases in accordance with knowledge points, which are aimed at deepening their understanding of the transmission mode and procedure of materials, information, funds in the supply chain, encouraging them to acquire information from the cases and make an analysis. On the other hand, I invite industry managers to share their practical experience with my students from the perspective of enterprise, thus helping students have a comprehensive mastery of knowledge points.

Meanwhile, I encourage students to conduct independent scientific research after class. The essence of teaching is to guide students to participate in scientific research, and to guide them to combine their interests with frontier research focuses. Especially during the period of supervising students in writing dissertations that will be published in the high-level SCI journals, I summarize practical research experience and seek solutions with them, and enlighten them to carry out innovative research. This process also benefits their mastery of knowledge points.

Constantly improving students’ lesson experience and creating a happy and active learning atmosphere are major concerns in my teaching. In order to strengthen students’ memories of knowledge, heighten their learning interests and simplify difficulties, I’d like to add some related games or experiments into my class.

For instance, I incorporate the improved “Beer Game” into this course, and create “Fashion Distribution Game,” which enhances their recognition of supply chain. I’m trying to offer students an active learning environment, and encourage them to participate in the course and cooperate with others. Not only do they need to listen carefully, but they also need to be proactively involved in class presentation, analyze business situation and apply knowledge to real cases, cultivating their abilities to solve real problems. Students need to keep thinking and respond to the questions from teachers, put the learnt knowledge and theories into practice, thus finding the solutions.
