On September 19, the DHU delegation led by Vice President Liu Chunhongwent to Scotland, UK for the University of Edinburgh’s 10th Anniversary celebration of its Model Confucius Institute and opening of its Model Institute new buildings. The counterparts present at the celebration include delegations from Heidelberg University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Zhejiang University, etc.
During the celebration, Liu Chunhong signed the Memorandum of Understanding on the Establishment of Donghua Edinburgh Research Center for Creative Industries with the representative of the University of Edinburgh. The center is intended to integrate the strengths of the two universities in fashion design and creative industries, which echoes the construction of Shanghai International Fashion Scientific and Technological Innovation Center, implementing demand and task-oriented fashion scientific and technological innovation research. It is believed that there will be broader and deeper cooperative space for the two universities in fashion and creative industries.
Later, a small fashion show of Qipao themed the traditional Chinese elements “Gold, Wood, Water, Fire, Earth” created by Donghua designers was held at the Playfair Library of the University of Edinburgh, which was warmly acclaimed by the audience. The show was a continuation of the event “Shanghai Season: The Development and Innovation of Shanghai-style Qipao” held at Edinburgh Art Festival in August.
The University of Edinburgh is one of the important strategic partners of Donghua University. The Shanghai International College of Fashion and Innovation co-established by the two universities was approved by the Ministry of Education in April, 2014, based on which Donghua University has built sound cooperative relationships with multiple globally renowned institutions such as the University of Edinburgh, Cornell University and Polytechnic University of Milan as well as enterprises in fashion and innovation industries. This August witnessed the first time for Donghua University to participate in the Edinburgh Art Festival, during which the event of “Shanghai Season: The Development and Innovation of Shanghai-style Qipao” held by the National Museum of Scotland was particularly well received.
