On May 18, “2016 Hanbok and Cheongsam Fashion Show & Exhibition”, hosted by Fashion and Art Design Institute, organized by Donghua-Xiangming International Cultural Creative Center and Shanghai Korean Women’s Association, and co-organized by Shanghai Cheongsam Culture Promotion Society and Shanghai Fashion Accessories Society, was held at Donghua University. Liu Chunhong, Vice President of DHU & President of Shanghai Fashion Accessories Society, and Zhang Yingji, President of Shanghai Korean Women’s Association, attended the event and delivered speeches. Yuan Menghong, Member of the Standing Committee of DHU & General Branch Secretary of Party of the College of Textile, together with guests from Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Shanghai, Shanghai Cheongsam Culture Promotion Society, Public Relations Department of Shanghai Women’s Federation, Korean Cultural Center and Chinese Korean Development Committee also attended the show.

Hanbok and Cheongsam were listed in the catalogue of National Intangible Cultural Heritage respectively in 2008 and 2011. Directed by Zhang Shun’ai, Vice Professor of Fashion and Art Design Institute & Vice President of Shanghai Korean Women’s Association, the show includes performances of “Sound of Spring – Fashionable Hanbok,” “Song of Love – Traditional Hanbok,” “Rippling Lotus Pond,” “Ice Chrysanthem,” “Charm of Autumn – Court Hanbok,” “Valley of Flowers – Artistic Hanbok,” etc. The combination of dance and performance not only establishes an art dialogue stage for Hanbok and Cheongsam, but also inherits classic national costumes and spreads national cultures in creative forms. The performers include entrepreneurs, senior professional managers as well as professors such as Zhang Shun’ai and Che Jinghua from International Cultural Exchange School. They enthusiastically present the implicit chic of Cheongsam and the elegance of Hanbok, which brought a visual feast for the audience.

The guests also indicated that it is hoped to better inherit and develop intangible cultural heritage and national cultures through the combination of national costume elements and modern fashion design. It is also expected that various nations will learn from each other and make common progress through cultural communication, thus making positive contributions to the beauty of both fashion and culture.
