Recently, Worth Global Style Network (WGSN), the global trend authority for fashion and creative industries, published an article titled Meet the new knitwear talent making outstanding mohair designs, analyzing the works of new designers from Fashion • Art Design Institute from the perspective of creative fashion design. This year Fashion • Art Design Institute of Donghua University launched Emerging Designers Program, under which excellent seniors are selected to form a team of new designers and work together to accomplish the project of comprehensive creative works pertaining to phases of the fashionable industry chain, covering works’ design, production, dissemination and publicity. Once debuting at Shanghai Fashion Week, works of these new designers immediately aroused wide attention. The works designed by new designers, for instance, Lu Zheng, a senior student from the Department of Fashion Art Design as well as the gold award winner for new designers, and supervised by Associate Prof. Zhou Honglei were reported and acclaimed by WGSN, the global trend authority for fashion and creative industries.
According to Lu Zheng, his mohair designs, series of Crime Scene Investigation, explore the social problem of information security based ona fictitious concept of “criminal suspect.” In style design, the crime evidence is shown through the exposed zipper head, taginformation, irregular buttons,lining of the clothes and so forth; in fabric, the original coil-knitted sweater was disassembled and re-tatted; the colors tend to be conservative manifested with the employment of low-key black, blue, white and russet-green.
DHU new designers’ debut at WGSN is not only an affirmation for students’ fashion comprehension and creativity, but also recognition for the ideology and results of DHU’s fashion design talents cultivation, signifying the role transition from fashion follower to fashion guide and creator. Instead of mechanical teaching mode, Donghua University encourages fashion and art design students to explore, discover, practice and innovate. It leads the students to improve their capacity of comprehension and creation with the mode of “University-Enterprise Cooperation, International Exchange and Cultivation of Excellent New Designers.” In future, the Fashion • Art Design Institute will continue to implement programs of cultivating excellent new designers, providing more platforms for students to show their talents and rendering DonghuaUniversity to become the cradle of fashion designers.
