On March 25, Vice President Liu Chunhong met with Professor Susanne Weigelin-Schwiedrzik, the distinguished sinologist as well as the former President of the University of Vienna, at the Yan’an Road campus, accompanied by Gu Bohong, the Dean of the International Cultural Exchange School.
Liu Chunhong extended a warm welcome to Prof. Weigelin’s second visit and expressed gratitude for her contribution to the cooperation between Donghua University and the University of Vienna during her period as Adjunct Professor of DHU since 2009. Liu also introduced the University’s recent development, especially about the international cooperation and exchange and the construction progress of the Greater Donghua Fashion Creative Industry Cluster District, hoping that Prof. Weigelin would continue to play a positive role in enhancing the bilateral cooperation in fashion education, short-term student exchange as well as cultural exchanges between cities.
Prof. Weigelin reviewed the universities’ cooperation programs and expressed thanks to DHU for the quality courses and services provided for both undergraduates and postgraduates from the Department of Sinology of the University of Vienna. Then, she introduced the art education at the University of Vienna and Vienna’s policies and measures concerning the promotion of fashion creative industry. Besides, she invited the leaders and experts of DHU to visit the University of Vienna this autumn.
Prof. Weigelin gave a lecture titled “Lu Xun and Modernity” the same day. She analyzed the implied meanings of Lu Xun’s essays from brand new political and historical perspectives which won great acclaim from the audience.
