“Satellite-borne Antenna Metal Mesh” Co-developed by Prof. Chen Nanliang’s Team Successfully Applied to BeiDou Navigation Satellite

Date:2016-03-22

Recently, Professor Chen Nanliang’s research team from College of Textiles received a Letter of Thanks from the Institute of Space Antenna Technology, affiliated with the 5th Academy of CASC in Xi’an, for all members’ outstanding contributions to the successful launch of the 12th BeiDou Navigation Satellite.

(Letter of Thanks)

The cooperation of “Satellite-borne Antenna Metal Mesh” project started from 2008. Through long-term unremitting scientific problem tracking, Prof. Chen’s team has broken through the technology of extremely fine wire’s twine twisting, designed dedicated doubling, beam-warping and warp knitting equipment and a full set of production process, created the numerical simulation and performance prediction system of metal mesh as well as established the production line of Satellite-borne Antenna Metal Mesh and a joint lab. Having filled the domestic blank and broken the monopoly of foreign technologies, the Satellite-borne Antenna Metal Mesh greatly enhanced the communication capacity of domestic high-performance satellites, indicating a broader application prospects.

(Research & Test Base)

It is reported that Prof. Chen’s research team has committed itself to the development of aerospace products over a long period of time. The birth of “Satellite-borne Antenna Metal Mesh” plays a monumental role in the localization of key flexible antenna products and lays a solid foundation for smooth in-orbit application of domestic metal mesh as well. The team is currently working closely with the aerospace department, undertaking the production of “fiberglass grid material for semi-rigid battery substrate” to be applied to “Tiangong-2” and “Tianzhou” cargo spacecraft programs.
