Students from Fashion & Art Design Institute Won 8 Prizes in the 27th World of Wearable Art Awards Show

The 27th World of Wearable Art Awards Show, known as WOW, kicked off recently for its annual Show Season in Wellington, New Zealand. Students from Fashion & Art Design Institute won 8 prizes, including a runner-up of the Supreme Award, a champion of Fashion Section Award and a champion of Science Section Award and other different section awards. Zhou Honglei, Luo Jingjie and Liu Yan from Fashion & Art Design Institute acted as advisers.

The ten pieces of art work received acclaim from the judges and audience with omni-faced and three-dimensional display achieved by a combined use of drama, music, stage lighting, architecture and dancing. Student designer Zhang Xi drew inspirations from South African scarlet macaw and beetles and designed the intensely-colored garment Deadly Beauty, which brought her the second place of the Supreme Award. The contestant of childrens costume section Huang Sichen created her work Angel Baymaxwith the enlightenment of Baymax”–the famous movie figure. Design has no boundary! Each country has its own culture, which may unconsciously exert an influence on the design works, she said.

Advisor Zhou Honglei, the team leader, told Xinhua at award-giving ceremony that it was the sixth time that Donghua participated in WOW. Every year, there are several design works of our university entering the final competition and both the quantity and quality of awards rank the first place among art design schools worldwide. Creative costume can not only be brought to life, but also can inspire innovative thinking styles, which has set high requirements on the teaching of creative costume design.
