On October 28, 2011, Donghua University ushered in its 60th birthday. By the Lake Jingyue in the Songjiang Campus, districts surrounding the Library were transformed into the anniversary carnival venue. Such activities as 60 Countries Exhibition, the Semifinal of the “Top Ten Singers” Contest, and the Award Ceremony of Swarovski pushed the anniversary to the climax.
More than 400 students from 60 different countries in Asia, Africa, the mainland of Europe and Latin America wore their national dress respectively and displayed enthusiastically the costume, food, pictures and ornaments of their countries, jointly bringing Donghua a unique birthday present. It’s learned that the 60 Countries Exhibition was also the primary activity of the 4th International Cultural Festival in Donghua University. Teetering old alumni and alumnae, fraternal schoolmates, teachers with their families, guests holding cameras, volunteers twisting through the crowd......every exhibition booth was permeated with the love towards Donghua. In the carnival, anniversary cards were issued, in which the holder could collect seals from different booths. Here, differences in language, race, nationality and age could not hinder people’s communication in the least. Chinese greetings from overseas students, group photos of alumni or alumnae with students, a smile, a hug...... all of these brought Donghua people together!
Li Qian from the College of Information Science and Technology said that this exhibition by overseas students made her feel the cohesiveness of Donghua people. Bai Jie from Tonga, a senior students of Chinese major, told the reporter in fluent Chinese that “I hope we could have more opportunities like this to make a cultural exchange with students. Wish Donghua a better future. ” Donghua is the second home of those overseas students. They made everyone in front of their booth feel their love and blessing towards Donghua.
