Project initiation of DHU’s national standard for urban furniture approved

Date:2021-05-12

The national standard Guidelines for Urban Furniture Systematic Construction, whose development was led by Prof. Bao Shidu of the School of Fashion & Art Design of Donghua University (DHU), has been approved by the Standardization Administration of China (SAC) as a project (Sequence No. 407 and Project No. 20211019-T-469) listed in Notice of the Standardization Administration of China on Issuing the Plan for Working out the First Batch of Recommended National Standards in 2021 and their Foreign Language Versions. This is another effort made by Prof. Bao and his team at Donghua University Environmental Art Design Research Institute to develop a national standard for China’s urban furniture and also another project of DHU approved following the three previous ones for standardization of urban furniture.

Prof. Bao and his team, based on the development of the school’s design discipline and intensive study on environmental design, has made innovations in many aspects of national standards for urban furniture. With unique perspectives and perseverance and overcoming many difficulties, from proposing the name “urban furniture” to establishing China’s urban furniture theory and standardization system, he and his team have developed six group standards for urban furniture and published a dozen or so local standards over the years, with 5 national standards for urban furniture developed or under development, contributing to the development of the “Five 1s” feature of DHU’s environmental design discipline, which makes the discipline stand out among those of other China’s higher education institutes.

The approval of project initiation of this national standard has demonstrated the school’s leading position in the urban furniture field.
