The Third Shangshi Forum for International Young Scholars Held at DHU

On December 26, the opening ceremony of the 3rd Shangshi Forum for International Young Scholars Donghua University and the Shanghai International Young Scholar Forum of Universities was held at Songjiang Campus. Party Secretary Liu Chenggong attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. Cui Yunhua, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee presided over the opening ceremony. Zhu Chenguang, Deputy Director of the Personnel Department of Shanghai Education Commission, was invited to the event. More than 60 young scholars at home and abroad from well-known universities and research institutes in more than ten countries and regions including Oxford University, MIT, University of Toronto, etc. gathered around the Moon Lake, focusing on dozens of disciplines including textile, materials, chemistry, information, humanities, management, and design.

In his speech, Liu Chenggong pointed out that talent introduction is vital to the development of the school. Universities should always adhere to the core strategy of strengthening the schools through talents, attracting, cultivating, retaining and giving full play to young talents, and constantly deepening the reform of the system and mechanism of talent development, and loosening restraints to pay their way of development from the institutional level. He emphasized that building a Double First-rate university is promoted in all aspects. We need to specify our work in terms of team building, helping them blend in, along with other supports, so as to provide a more refined, warmer and more appealing environment to young talents. In this case, they can truly become an important positive force for the vision of Striving for a thriving DHU and the high-quality development of the school.

Zhu Chenguang expressed congratulations on the opening of the forum. He introduced Shanghai's policies on implementing the national talent strategy, which provides sufficient space for the development of young talents, and welcomes young scholars to choose Shanghai and join the fast track of Donghua University's future development.

At the meeting, Li Wei, Director of the Teachers' Department of the Party Committee, Director of the Personnel Division, and Director of the Office of Talents, made a special report on Adhering to the characteristics to build a Striving Donghua and introduced the school situation to the present scholars. Young scholar representatives Shen Bo from the College of Information Science and Technology and Si Yang from Textile Technology Innovation Center delivered academic reports Filtering for Networked Systems with Energy Harvesting Sensor and Nanofiber Functional Protective Materials on the main forum respectively.

This forum received applications from a total of more than 600 scholars. In addition to the main forum, 13 colleges and centers also held sub-forums. The purpose of the forum is to attract outstanding young scholars from all over the world. In response to major strategic needs of the country, the forum will focus on the international academic frontier, carrying out exchanges and cooperation through special reports, academic seminars, visits and other forms, and striving to create a new situation in which talents gather together and jointly build a scenario of Strive for a thriving DHU. The International Young Scholar Forum has gradually become an important measure for schools to attract and gather talents, and to implement the core strategy of strengthening schools through talents. It has established a broad platform for international and interdisciplinary exchanges and cooperation for young talents at home and abroad.

Shanghai Education Committee, Municipal Party Committee Organization Department, Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, Changning District Party Committee, District Government, Songjiang District Party Committee, District Government officials, heads of school departments and discipline pioneers attended the opening ceremony of the forum.
