President Yu delivered the opening speech. He first, on behalf of DHU, expressed his gratitude to the experts and scholars participating in the Conference, to the Presidium of IESM for the long-term guidance and trust, and to the peer colleges and universities for the support. Then he introduced the development of DHU and discipline construction of the Glorious Sun School of Business and Management. He hoped that the experts could give valuable opinions and suggestions on the “build characteristics and rise as part of mainstream” goal of Glorious Sun School of Business and Management for management disciplines, and expressed the willingness to work together with peer colleges and universities to make new contributions to the innovation and development of management disciplines.

(IESM 2019)

Alexandre Dolgui, Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Production Research and distinguished professor from France, delivered a report on “Combinatorial optimization in manufacturing system design: new problems and practical applications”. Dingzhu Du, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Combinatorial Optimization and professor of the University of Texas, gave a report on “Viral marketing of online games and iterative sandwich method”. Doctor Zhen Liu, IEEE Fellow and co-founder and CTO of RootCloud, gave a report on “Industrial IOT and digital transformation in manufacturing”. Other papers and abstracts accepted at the Conference were reported in three best paper defense sessions and 35 sub-sessions.

The Conference received more than 270 full-text papers or abstracts by more than 600 authors from 31 countries and regions. Finally, the Conference finally selected 165 full-text papers and 8 abstracts. Accepted full-text papers will be published by IEEE and indexed by EI. Outstanding conference papers will be recommended to SCI journals such as IJPR, JOCO, CAIE, and EIS.

The IESM offers an invaluable opportunity for the academia and industry to discuss and share the experiences and insights of scholars worldwide in fields such as smart city cluster, thus addressing new challenges and sharing solutions. It is not only a grand meeting in the field of industrial engineering and systems management, but also shows the style and features of DHU and Shanghai to the world. In addition, the place and theme for the 9th IESM were determined in the Conference. Let’s look forward to the next meeting in the UK in 2021.
