Full- Time General Chinese Courses (Program A)

 

I. Program Features

  • Synchronous online and offline courses: We promise our online and offline courses are conducted synchronously in terms of learning content. Absent offline students can also join the online class to keep up with their studies.

  • Focus on language applications: We adopt the self-compiled textbook ‘Chinese in Real Life’, which is more suitable for international students’ life in China. We also consider the application of Chinese language in daily life and the preparation for HSK tests.

  • Integration of language learning and cultural understanding: We offer the introduction of Chinese culture as well as the cultural lectures and practical activities to deepen students’ understanding in Mandarin Chinese.

  • Rich online learning materials: We offer various Chinese learning materials, including keywords, language points, recorded videos, dialogue videos, audios, course summary, and etc. All Learning materials, as well as the assignments, will be uploaded to the learning management platform; and students both in online and offline courses can review the courses at any time.   

  • Various Course Levels: We can provide different course levels to meet different Chinese proficiencies from beginners to HSK6 learners.

  • Assistant Support: We assign Chinese teachers or DHU Chinese students to each class as assistants to provide additional support for international students.

  • Quality Accreditation: We are the only language program in China accredited by EAQUALS, which guarantees consistency and quality in our teaching methods.

     

II. Program Schedule:

  • Spring Semester: every March to July; Fall Semester: every September to January

  • 18 weeks per semester; 20 class-hour per week (1 class-hour = 45 minutes)

     

III. In-Person Study

  • Course Schedule for 2022 Spring Semester: Feburary 28th 2022- July 1st  2022

  • Application deadline for 2022 Spring semester: January 4th 2022

  • Class time: 9:00 AM - 12:15 PM Beijing Time, Monday to Friday (Except for holidays and special circumstances);

  • Small class Less than 20 people per class;

  • Levels: Beginner, Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced with the maximum of 8 levels. Students have to take a placement test to evaluate their Chinese proficiency, and they will be divided into different levels based on the test result.

IV. Online Study

  • Course Schedule for 2022 Spring Semester (Online)Faburary 28th 2022- July 1st, 2022

  • Application deadline for 2022 Spring Semester (Online)January 20th 2022

  • Class Time: 3 hours per day, class time will be arranged before instruction starts based on the students' situation and teaching plan.

  • Course Arrangement: 2 hour live classes and 1-hour self-study on recorded learning materials. Your course instructor will arrange for the learning schedule.

  • Levels4 course levels in Beginner and Elementary. A minimum of 8 students to open higher level classes. Students have to take a placement test to evaluate their Chinese proficiency, and they will be divided into different levels based on the test result.



V. Fees

  • Application fee: CNY 400

  • Tuition: CNY 10,200 per semester

  • Preferential policy

    • If you are a currently-enrolled or a past student at Donghua University, the application fee will be waived, and you are eligible for a tuition discount.

VI. Application

  • Age Eligibility: 16-60 years old

  • Application procedure

    1. Apply online via https://admissions.dhu.edu.cn/ with your personal information and the chosen language program;

    2. Upload the required document; ensure that you enclose all the scanned documents clear and visible and file size should below 100KB.

      • Scanned passport information page

      • One bareheaded electronic ID photo

      • Valid Chinese visa (offline study applicants only)

    3. University will email you and review your application once we receive your admission fee. We may ask you to submit additional information, if necessary.

    4. Wait for your admission result. Whilst we aim to give you a decision via email within 10 working days, in some instances due to the volume of applications received, it may cause some delay.

       

VII. Others

  • Textbooks: Self-compiled textbooks Chinese in Real Life with online supplementary learning materials.

  • Visa:

    • In-person: Documents for student visa and Residence Permit (Study) application will be provided.

    • Online: Documents for student visa and Residence Permit (Study) application will NOT be provided.

  • Accommodation

    • In-person: Students can apply for campus accommodation based on the capacity. If the reservation is confirmed, please check-in during the designated time as required.

    • Online: The University will NOT offer accommodation services or documents.

  • Refund

    • Application feeNon-refundable;

    • Tuition: Full refund: study terminated before instruction starts.

      50% refund: study terminated in the 1st week of study.

      NO refund will be accepted the 2nd week of study.

  • Class arrangement

    • Students have to take a placement test to evaluate their Chinese proficiency, and they will be divided into different levels based on the test result.

    • In the 1st week, students are allowed to change the course level within a specific timeframe.

  • Epidemic prevention and control

    • Offline Study students will be allowed to enter the campus only if they follow epidemic control policies and regulations of Shanghai Municipal Government and Donghua University.

    • In the middle of semester, the school may have to adjust In-person courses to online for epidemic prevention and control purposeaccording to the development of the domestic epidemic situation in China. It is to ensure the safety and health of teachers and students.  Students are requested to actively cooperate in such adjustment the paid tuition will not be refunded.

  • Facility Requirement (online class)

    • One computer with properly functioning audio, camera and headphone

    • Smooth internet connections

    • A calm, quiet environment, suitable for learning
