On November 7, Chen Ge, Vice President of Donghua University (DHU), met with Karen Nelson, Vice Chancellor of the University of Southern Queensland (USQ), and Ren Yi, Deputy Vice Chancellor, at DHU’s Yan’an Road Campus to advance bilateral collaboration.

During the meeting, the two universities held in-depth discussions on strengthening cooperation in disciplinary development, expanding joint scientific research, and advancing collaborative education initiatives, including joint programs and short-term study opportunities.

Chen Ge welcomed the USQ delegation and reviewed the steady progress achieved in recent years through joint doctoral training and scientific research collaboration. Since the signing of the joint PhD training agreement last year, cooperation in cutting-edge fields such as thermoelectric materials and composite materials has continued to deepen. Several DHU doctoral students will soon begin their studies in Australia, marking another milestone in the partnership. Chen noted that the shared research strengths of both universities create a strong foundation for further cooperation.

Nelson expressed appreciation for DHU’s warm reception and commended the university’s achievements in research innovation and talent development. She emphasized that USQ places great value on its partnership with DHU and is eager to expand collaboration in key disciplinary areas, including materials science and mechanical engineering. Future cooperation will span international research projects, joint talent cultivation, collaborative academic programs, and enhanced short-term exchanges for faculty and students, as well as deeper curriculum collaboration.

Both sides reached a consensus that strengthening cooperation will promote interdisciplinary integration, drive scientific research innovation, and establish a new, mutually beneficial model of international partnership. The enhanced collaboration aims to elevate the joint talent training system and boost both universities’ global influence in education and research. Looking ahead, DHU and USQ will continue working together to inject fresh momentum into educational cooperation and technological advancement, further enriching their long-term strategic partnership.
