University Delegation Visits Kenya and Ethiopia for Exchange and Cooperation

From June 9 to 15, Vice President Lu Weibing led a delegation to visit Moi University in Kenya, Bahir Dar University and the Federal Technical & Vocational Training Institute in Ethiopia. The delegation also met with the Chinese Embassy in Kenya and visited local Chinese enterprises.


Lu Weibing held discussions with Kiplagat Kotut, President of Moi University, and conveyed his greetings to the faculty and students from DHU teaching and studying at the Confucius Institute at Moi University. Following the discussions, the two sides signed a framework agreement to co-establish an Overseas College of Excellence in Engineering, aiming to pool high-quality resources to jointly cultivate engineering professionals with international competitiveness. During the visit, the delegation attended the Board Meeting of the Confucius Institute at Moi University and reviewed its annual budget and key construction projects, reaching a consensus on the development plan of the Confucius Institute and the promotion of Chinese language education.

At Bahir Dar University in Ethiopia, President Mengesha Ayene attended the exchange meeting. Both sides discussed discipline development, inter-university exchanges, and scientific research cooperation,signing a framework agreement to co-establish an Overseas College of Excellence in Engineering. At the Federal Technical & Vocational Training Institute in Ethiopia, the delegation visited the Luban Workshop built with Chinese assistance and investigated the achievements of the China-Ethiopia Chinese+Vocational Skills project, reaching preliminary intentions regarding faculty and student exchanges between the two universities.

The delegation also met with the Chinese Embassy in Kenya, holding in-depth discussions on Sino-Kenyan international education cooperation and cultural exchanges. Zhang Zhizhong, Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Kenya, affirmed the achievements of the Confucius Institute co-established by DHUand Moi University, and encouraged further explorations of characteristic and competitive discipline resources to promote Sino-Kenyan educational and people-to-people exchanges in multiple dimensions. Furthermore, the delegation visited local Chinese enterprises to research the demand for internationalized talent, strengthening the foundation for university-enterprise cooperation tobetter serve the Belt and Road initiative.


This visit further enhanced exchange and cooperation between DHU and African institutions, establishing an international platform for the development of Confucius Institutes and the cultivation of Overseas College of Excellence in Engineering. In the future, DHU will continue to deepen educational cooperation with countries participating in the Belt and Road initiative, promote the deep integration of industry, academia, and research, and advance the high-quality development of international Chinese language education, contributing DHU's wisdom and strength to realizing the vision of China-Africa educational cooperation.
