Cotton is a key raw material for the textile industry and a strategic material of the country. On April 11, the scientific research team led by Professor Wang Hua from the College of Textiles of Donghua University carried out spring seeding at the high-quality medium-long-staple green cotton base in Yong'an New District, Shache County, Kashgar, Xinjiang. Cottonseed can be deemed as the “chip” of cotton, and breeding and selection the prerequisite are key to a good yield. From the breeding in the Nanfan Base in Sanya in October 2020 to the recent spring seeding of cotton in Kashgar, southern Xinjiang, Professor Wang Hua and his team have cooperated with the National Cotton Industry Alliance, Institute of Cotton Research of CAAS, and Guomian Science and Technology to improve the quality of Xinjiang cotton fundamentally, speed up the quality and efficiency of Xinjiang’s cotton industry, and sharpen the international competitiveness of Xinjiang’s cotton industry through the wide adoption of new cotton varieties and the BDS-based seeding technology.

It is learned that since 2017, Professor Wang Hua and his team have conducted in-depth collaboration with the Institute of Cotton Research of CAAS and National Cotton Industry Alliance to conduct research into high-quality cotton varieties with both length and strength over 30 in index grating and participate in the promotion across the entire industry chain, contributing to the development of Xinjiang's cotton industry with practical actions. Meanwhile, the team also actively supports the development of the cotton textile industry in countries along the Belt and Road Initiative trade routes to enhance the international influence of Donghua’s textile discipline. The “Cotton Science and Processing Technology” edited by the team was selected as the English textbook of the World Textile University Alliance.
