The Fifth “Think Youth” Shanghai College Students Cultural and Creative Works Exhibition – “Fashion Design” Contest Successfully Held

On June 27, the launch event for the final works of the Fifth “Think Youth” Shanghai College Students Cultural And Creative Works Exhibition – “Fashion Design” Contest, hosted by the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee for Education and Health Work and the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, undertaken by DHU, successfully held at the Ansha International Conference Center (Address: No.1353 Waima Road). Wu Jing, party secretary of the College of Fashion and Design, Wang Zhaohui, deputy dean of the College, and teacher representatives from many other universities attended the event.

The Contest was led by DHU. The 13 participating universities include DHU, Tongji University, East China Normal University, Soochow University, Shanghai University of Engineering Science, Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts, Shanghai Sanda University, Shanghai Business School, Shanghai Film Art Academy, Shanghai Donghai Vocational and Technical College, Shanghai Bond Vocational and Technical College, Shanghai Art & Design Academy, and Shanghai Lida University.

A total of 549 sets of costumes from 146 series were displayed at the launch event. Finally, 7 first prize winners, 14 second prize winners and 15 third prize winners were selected. The “Think Youth” Fashion Design Contest has received the general attention of teachers and students from universities in the Yangtze River Delta and even across the country. This year, the number of participating universities and students and the submitted works was significantly increased compared with the previous four sessions. Moreover, this year’s works have also improved in terms of creativity, moral, materials, and production quality. Only the exquisite works could be selected into the finals which created an extraordinary visual feast for the audiences.

On the dynamic show, a smart of original works with a distinct sense of fashion appeared in turn, covering topics such as environmental protection, history and culture, contemporary art, ethnic style, street fashion, and technological outlook. DHU’s work “I Held You Through the Night” won the first prize. The designer interprets a warm and soft experience through the design of “quilt”, showing a relaxed and lazy life of contemporary urbanites. Student designers incorporated their unique ideas into their work, using diversified production techniques, fabrics, and accessories to reshape their understanding of clothing with unique and innovative inspiration, and striving to perfectly integrate creative ideas of clothing with future fashion.

It is learned that, since the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic, DHU has overcome many difficulties to make full preparation in the early stage and strict review in the mid-term before the successful launch of the final works. The launch event for the final works was broadcast live on TikTok account of DHU and iQiyi on July 2.

For the past five years, the “Think Youth” Shanghai College Students Cultural And Creative Works Exhibition – “Fashion Design” Contest, undertaken by DHU, has always adhered to the concept of promoting the development of the domestic fashion industry and cultivating talents for the fashion creative industry, combining internationality with localization and playing an exemplary role in fashion innovation and cultural communication. It focuses on the cooperation between education and industry, the construction of new concepts of clothing, the development of new clothing technologies, and the training of outstanding related talents. Also, it is committed to the development and improvement of the clothing education and clothing industry in China, and the quality of Chinese people’s clothing.
