On September 8, a team led by Party Secretary Liu Chenggong went to Suzhou to conduct investigation at the National Advanced Functional Fiber Innovation Center. Companions included Wang Yunjun, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and secretary of the Committee for Discipline Inspection, Vice President Chen Nanliang, and heads of related units such as Scientific Research Institute, Donghua University Investment Management Co.LTD and Office of the Party Committee.

The National Advanced Functional Fiber Innovation Center, also the 13th national manufacturing innovation center in China, was approved for establishment by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in June 2019. Its establishment was led and guided by DHU and Jiangsu Guowang High-Technique Fiber Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Shenghong Group. And Jiangsu New Vision Advanced Functional Fiber Innovation Center Co., Ltd. is in charge of the marketability operation of the center. During the investigation, Liu Chenggong and the team visited the Jiangsu Guowang High-Technique Fiber Co., Ltd. and the New Vision Advanced Functional Fiber Innovation Center to learn about related technology research and development, achievement transformation and industrial application. They affirmed the innovation management system and operation mechanism of university-enterprise cooperation and expressed gratitude to the local party committee and government for their concern and support for the construction of the National Advanced Functional Fiber Innovation Center.

At the symposium, Liu Chenggong pointed out that taking the lead in establishing the National Advanced Functional Fiber Innovation Center was an important measure for DHU to thoroughly study and implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech and implement the requirements of “four services” for higher education. In particular, the innovation center is located in Wujiang, Suzhou, the “Yangtze River Delta Integrated Development Demonstration Zone”. As a “Double First-Class” university in the Yangtze River Delta region, DHU is liable for promoting the cooperation between universities and local governments and universities and enterprises, better assisting the integration development of Yangtze River Delta region. DHU would adhere to the principle of running university by taking root in China, give full play to the advantages of disciplines and the overflow effects of talents and technology, focus on national strategies and major local and industry needs, and actively support the local economic and social development and industrial transformation and upgrading. Liu Chenggong emphasized that it would be necessary to use the National Advanced Functional Fiber Innovation Center as a model to further promote the reform of the university’s scientific research system, enhance scientific and technological innovation capabilities, build an multidisciplinary research team, and spare no effort to solve the strategic problems of national and regional development and the core technical issues in the transformation and upgrading of the industry. It would be necessary to further explore the integration mode of production, education and research and the overall operation mechanism that adapts to the new situation of the textile industry, create the entire production chain, value chain and innovation chain of the textile industry with new ideas, and better support the transformation of China from a large textile producer to a textile powerhouse.

At the symposium, Wang Yuping, director of the National Advanced Functional Fiber Innovation Center, reported on the innovation center’s operating model, capacity building, vision and goals, project progress, capital use, and work plan for the second half of the year. Heads of local government and enterprises exchanged ideas on key issues in the cooperation between universities and local governments and universities and enterprises.

On the same day, Liu Chenggong and his companions were also invited to attend the launching ceremony of the construction of the Suzhou Campus of Nanjing University, and they exchanged views with the leaders of Suzhou Municipal Government and Nanjing University on further deepening the cooperation between universities and local governments and the inter-university cooperation.
