Teachers and Students of DHU Use Technologies to Support 2020 League of Legends World Championship

Recently, the League of Legends World Championship kicked off in Shanghai. The event joined up with many universities in Shanghai to create the Urban Canyon series of bonus activities, allowingLeague of Legendsplayers and e-sports enthusiasts to enjoy the great e-sports event while appreciating the charm of Shanghai, realizing the organic integration of urban culture and e-sports culture. From 22nd to 25th October, a major bonus activity held at the Oriental Pearl Tower,one of Shanghai’s city landmarks. The ancient dragon that theLeague of Legends players are so familiar with on the computer screen “truly appeared in front of the playerswith the help of AR glasses technology.

The interactive exhibition was completed by the League of Legends World Championship in collaboration with Fashion & Art Design School of DHU and the Cultural and Creative Practice Base of DHU. A team composed of teachers and students from the Department of Visual Communication Design, headed by Mr. Li Xuefei, fully demonstrated their professional competence and creative skills, and they completed specific tasks including AR creative forms, lens transitions, and post landing guidance. During the creation process, teachers and students worked together to optimize the script content, performance image, form and production details, striving to give players the best visual experience.

As an emerging industry, e-sports has attracted many post-90s and post-00s generation, and the resulting cultural and creative industries and related design projects can also catch college students attention and arouse their creative enthusiasm. In particular, in the context of the ongoing global COVID-19 epidemic, Internet and other online services certainly will become preferred employment channels.

It is learned that, the successful cooperation between DHU andLeague of Legends in AR live-action interaction is a major cooperation between the Fashion & Art Design School and the top domestic Internet company in the field of world-class e-sports events. It is also an important result of the Cultural and Creative Practice Base of DHU for carrying out college-enterprise cooperation, and the result ofthe Department of Visual Communication Design in deepening the teaching practice of production, learning and research. This cooperation has practical significance in effectively exploring the strategy of cultivating outstandingtalents in digital visual creative design.
