On October 17, Alumni Homecoming Day for the 69th Anniversary of Donghua University (DHU) and Ceremony of the One-year Countdown to the 70thAnniversary were held in Yan’an Road Campus. Party Secretary Liu Chenggong, President Yu Jianyong and Vice President and Executive Chairman of Donghua University Alumni Association Chen Ge attended the ceremony. Other attendees included representatives of the Council Members, representatives of the directors of the Shanghai Donghua University Education Development Foundation, representatives of alumni, and representatives of teachers and students from relevant Schools. The ceremony was presided over by Chen Ge.
Liu Chenggong, on behalf of DHU, welcomed alumni from home and abroad to gather together by online and offline channels, sharing joy and promoting friendship. He pointed out that, adhering to the motto of “Integrity in Mind, Erudition in Learning, Nobility in Aspiration, and Conscientiousness in Practice”, generations of Donghua people make arduous efforts in China and other places in the world, realize achievement, winning excellent reputation for our university. Standing at a new historical starting point, all Donghua people should stay true to the mission of “strengthening moral education and cultivating people” and “educating people for CPC and cultivate talents for the country”, by taking root in China, continuously consolidate and upgrade the University’s discipline characteristics and advantages, and drive more disciplines into the front fields. DHU will stay firm in conducting in-depth international cooperation, cultivate more all-round talents with international competitiveness, and create more international-advanced technological innovations and academic and cultural achievements. DHU is fully implementing the action plan of “Striving at Donghua”, hoping that all Donghua people, especially our alumni at home and abroad, could actively contribute their wisdom and strength, give related advice and suggestions, and help develop a better blueprint for the future of DHU.

Yu Jianyong, on behalf of DHU, expressed thanks to alumni at home and abroad, as well as enterprises, public institutions and individuals who supported the development of DHU. He pointed out that alumni have always been an important resource, precious wealth and backbone force for the University’s development. DHU should constantly strengthen the talents training, scientific research, and team building in such advantageous disciplines as textiles, materials, clothing, and design, improve DHU’s social reputation and influence, and repay the love and generosity of alumni by achieving satisfying results. Meanwhile, DHU will build a multi-mode alumni service platform, set up a multi-channel publicizing platform, gather alumni through a full range of activities, in order to promote emotional exchanges, resource sharing, and achieve win-win cooperation. He said that DHU, at the starting point of planning the development blueprint of the 14th Five-Year Plan for the college, will always take meeting China and Shanghai’s strategic needs as its own responsibility, constantly strengthen the high-quality development based on discipline construction, and make unremitting efforts toward the goal of becoming a domestic first-class, internationally influential university which bears related characteristics. Finally, he took the opportunity of the one-year countdown to the 70th Anniversary of DHU to make invitations to alumni all over the world, hoping that our alumni could give advice and suggestions about the future development of DHU and make progress together with their old school in such a great new era.

Xue Jifeng, a graduate of Grade 1986, majoring in knitting, and director of the Science and Technology and Manufacturing Division of Orient International (Holding) Co., Ltd., spoke as an alumni representative. She briefly reviewed her experience in DHU and the career development course after graduation, expressed her gratitude to the old school and teachers, as well as called on everyone to love DHU, be proud of it and give advice and suggestions about its future development.

The opening ceremony of the Alumni Association of Fashion & Art Design School and the donation ceremony of the “Peacebird Education and Research Innovation Fund of Donghua University” were held successively. Chen Hongchao, a graduate of Grade 1993, majoring in fashion design, and CEO of Ningbo Peacebird Fashion Co., Ltd., spoke as a representative of the donor, he shared the development strategy of Peacebird brand and the original intent of establishing the education and research innovation fund.

On the occasion of one-year countdown to the 70th Anniversary, DHU officially issued the “Campus Announcement on the 70th Anniversary of Donghua University (No. 1)” and the LOGO of the 70th Anniversary of Donghua University. For the LOGO, line is used in combination with surface to create the number “70”, and the color is mainly agate red, which symbolizes the spirit of DHU, echoing the theme of the 70th anniversary of “seven decades have passed, welcoming a new chapter of splendidness”. Then, launching ceremony of the One-year Countdown to the 70th Anniversary ended successfully with the participation of university leaders, council members, representatives of teachers and students, representatives of alumni, representatives of enterprises and friendly people. The conference came to a successful conclusion in the warm atmosphere of the chorus of the “Song of Donghua”.

In the afternoon, the Alumni Entrepreneur Forum presided over by Chen Ge was held in the conference room of Alumni Home. Based on what they had seen and heard, and their feelings about their career development, alumni spoke freely one after another on DHU’s talent training, curriculum provision, resource development, etc., and put forward relevant opinions and forward-looking suggestions. Yu Jianyong expressed thanks to alumni for their concern and support for the development of their old school, and actively responded to the major issues related to the development of the University that the alumni cared about, and hoped that outstanding alumni entrepreneurs could actively contribute their wisdom and strength to the development of the University on the occasion of its 70th Anniversary. Moreover, the forum on the “Legal Consideration from the Perspective of Fashion Industry - Investment, Trade, and Intellectual Property”, and the opening ceremony of the Alumni Association of Fashion & Art Design School were also held.

Affected by the COVID-19 epidemic, in addition to off-line activities, this year’s Alumni Homecoming Day also enabled the mini program of “Alumni Homecoming by Cloud”, the whole celebration was broadcast live on multiple platforms such as Douyin, Weibo, and Blibili. On the homecoming day, the University invited three alumni who finished study in East-China Textile Institute of Science and Technology, China Textile University and Donghua University to live broadcast with current students in two campuses, looking back to yesterday and imagine the future. As of the evening of the 17th, the number of alumni gathered on-line through the mini program reached tens of thousands of person times. They “lighted” campuses all over the world, and over 190,000 people watched the live broadcast to celebrate their old school’s birthday together.
