On September 11, the Graduate Fashion Foundation announced various awards online. In the selection of the International Fashion Range Plan Award, the graduation work “Held you to sleep” by Yao Zhijie, a 2020 graduate majoring in Fashion and Clothing Design (Sino-Japanese cooperation) from College of Fashion and Design of our university, stood out among the outstanding works of many top international fashion colleges and finally won the grand prize after three rounds of selection.

Since its inception in 1991, Graduate Fashion Week has been the largest activity devoted to graduates of fashion design in the world. It is recognized as the cradle of up-and-coming youngsters of the fashion industry. Every year, it invites the world’s best fashion design institutes and colleges to attend. Affected by the epidemic, this year’s Graduate Fashion Week was changed from offline to online exhibition. The institutions and colleges participating in this year included more than 40 universities from China, the UK, the US, France, Italy, Japan, and other countries, which showed the creativity and vitality of the world’s new designers.

The International Fashion Range Plan Award is a new award for this year’s Graduate Fashion Week, which is set up to celebrate and demonstrate the creative practice of the series and recognize its value. The graduate work “Held you to sleep” by Yao Zhijie of our university showed his practice of “multi-way” clothing through a series of plans, and expressed his thinking of the social controversial topic through a series of warm and sad stories.

The outstanding performance of DHU graduates in this year’s Graduate Fashion Week is also inseparable from the success of our “new designers” training program. Just as its development vision — “Beautiful college brings everyone fashion”, College of Fashion and Design has insisted on building a “fashion discipline ecological chain with clothing as the head and design as the main body” since its establishment, actively cultivating interdisciplinary creative talents with world vision and local consciousness, and encouraging students to pursue delicacy, excellence and innovation. “International cooperation, university-enterprise cooperation, and new talent training” run through the whole process of undergraduate training and education, creating a teaching environment integrating art learning and humanistic cultivation, closely combining art, engineering and design, guiding students to make cross-border integration, and colliding with the sparks of creativity and inspiration. Through the training program of “Donghua new designers” and various cross-disciplinary and innovative courses, we will constantly explore new forces, and teach them to adhere to the spirit of “advocating morality, erudition and truth” of DHU, and cultivate them to become outstanding talents to create, inherit and disseminate beauty.
