China is well known all over the world for its delicious cuisine. Confucius Institute at Moi University aims to open a window for local students to explore the mystery in it by offering cooking lessons to their students at the school of medicine in Moi university on Friday 13th November 2015.
All the attendees were the students from both main and town campuses and all staff from Confucius institute. The event was organized to fit all the levels and had two parts, Level 1 and 2 from 9.00am to 12.00 pm while level 3 and 4 from 2.00pm -5.00pm.
Before the real practice students were given an introduction of the different types of foods famous in different Chinese provinces by their teacher Mr. Zhou Lei. A Kenyan lady named Eunita who had worked for Chinese Wu Yi Company shared her experience of cooking Chinese food and her dream for the future. She also gave an introduction of the ingredients to be used in the demostration that day. Interestingly she could name them all in Chinese though she has never been a Chinese student.
At the beginning of the workshop teacher Jiang Ying gave a demonstration on how to cook fish like the Zhejiang province people do. Teacher Zhang Yi gave a demonstration on how to cook eggplants in the Chinese way. Some of the guest house staff also followed the proceedings of the day in order to get new tactics on cooking too. The students were later offer a opportunity to cook in groups and the outcome was more amazing than we expected.
All the students, staff and workers from the guesthouse had a taste of the meal and they really enjoyed it. The students were happy to have had the experience and said they wished to have more of the lessons.
