1.Fashion Design & Engineering
Education Targets
The Program aims to cultivate senior professionals and engineers in the fields of fashion design, clothing pattern and technology, application of clothing digitalization, clothing material, and functional and protective clothing development. It also aims to cultivate senior management professionals in the fields of fashion industrial economy, fashion marketing, brand operation, commodity inspection, logistics and trade, etc.
Specialized Knowledge And Ability
Fashion Design and Engineering Program is special in that it is not only the crossover of engineering technology and art design, but also the combination of fashion discipline and other engineering disciplines. It is the earliest in China to build the fashion discipline and has established an education system of three levels: bachelor, master, and doctor. Fashion Design and Engineering Discipline of Donghua University is accredited as the state Key Discipline of Fashion, the only one of its kind in China. Fashion Design and Engineering Program has ranked number 1 in China over the past years.
The Program has strong ties with the fashion institutes in Hong Kong and countries like US, UK, Japan, and Korea. At doctoral level, it has academic exchange with Universite de Haute Alsace of France; at master’s level, it signs co-education agreement with Iowa State University of US; for undergraduates, it has 1-year visiting student program with Fashion Institute of Technology of US.

Fashion Design and Engineering Program emphasizes on the training of students’ practical ability through engineering practices such as material function and construction experiment, style design practice and patterning practice, garment techniques practice, etc. It has functional and protective clothing research center, clothing ergonomics research center and garment CAD/CAM research center. It also has fashion industrial production laboratory, garment fabrics testing laboratory, sewing laboratory, fashion digitalization laboratory, etc. It makes full use of social resources and strengthens cooperation of different levels with government, industry, and enterprises. It has built research and internship bases with adidas, Esprit, Youngor Group, Hailan Group and Mozhihua Group, etc.

2.Art design - Fashion Art Design
Education Targets
The Program aims to equip students with the basic knowledge and skills of fashion design. Students will get familiar with the process from inspiration to expression, from painting to form shaping, as well as the latest information in the world fashion circle.
It emphasizes the combination of theory and practice. We aim to train students with both design creativity and hand - making skills.
Specialized Knowledge And Ability
The program of fashion art design takes advantage of its location in shanghai, the metropolitan city, pays equal attention to theory and practice, covers both fashion art and fashion engineering, and integrates teaching with social practice to produce high-level personnel for fashion design and fashion research. It has gradually fostered a society-oriented, innovation-conscious, market-sensitive, and practice-centered feature. The graduates, after 4-year’s professional training, have not only the knowledge of fashion industry and fashion market, but also the ability to foresee the trend. After 20 years’ effort, the program has gathered certain influence at home and abroad. Over 10 fashion institutes from overseas have established exchange relationship with us and many fashion enterprises have become our internship bases and sponsors.
Primary Subject
The practical stage includes laboratory production, market research, professional investigation, design practice, graduation research and thesis paper, etc. Laboratory production means to complete the construction of fashion and accessories, including men’s wear, women’s wear and draping. Market research means to carry out research for the fashion market in order to get familiar with the dynamics of market development. Professional investigation intends to study certain traditions and costumes of the minority group and get inspiration for design. Design practice means to have internship in fashion or related companies. Graduation research and thesis paper are the summary of four years’ learning.

3. Art Design - Textile Art Design
Education Targets
Textile Art Design Program emphasizes the integration of theory and practice, tradition and fashion, professional art quality and application ability. It teaches students to develop and create continuously based on the abundant culture and historical resources. With an international view, it promotes and strengthens unique design and diversified expressions. It aims at training senior design professionals engaged in fashion and ornament, furnishings, home decorations that are related to the textile art.

The Program takes advantage of its location in shanghai, the metropolitan city, pays equal attention to theory and practice, introduces advanced international teaching concept to produce high-level personnel for textile design and research. It has gradually fostered a society-oriented, innovation-conscious, market-sensitive, and practice-centered feature. In order to broaden the students’ horizon, we have invited foreign professors to give lectures. We also have various cooperations with enterprises.
Primary Subject
This major has set up a laboratory for “dyeing and printing, hand-painting, digitalized ink printing”, which can be used for the course of “Specialized Techniques”. It also provides practical stages such as professional investigation, fabric trend research, market research, graduation design, etc.

4.Art Design (Sino-Japan Program)
Education Targets
Art Design (Sino-Japan Program) is collaboratively run by Donghua University and Japan Bunka Fashion College. It is approved by Ministry of Education of China.
The joint program aims to integrate the strengths of both the Chinese and Japanese resources and trains professionals with fashion design and techniques knowledge who will engage in the field of ready-to-wear design, production, and management.
Specialized Knowledge And Ability
Students in this program will study in Donghua University for two and half years. Students who pass all the courses and Japanese aptitude test can then study in Japan Bunka Fashion College for one year after they obtain the study-abroad visa signed by Japan. The last half-year will be in Donghua University to complete their graduation project. The students will get diploma both from Donghua University and Bunka Fashion College if they are eligible for graduation, and the qualified students will be conferred Bachelor of Arts degree by Donghua University.

5.Art Design - New Media Art Design
Education Targets
The Program aims to educate senior professionals who can go in for design, research, teaching and management in the multi-media art design field. Based on comprehensive painting art and directed by design theory, this major is focused on the training of students’ creative ability and comprehensive practical ability.

This Program values the inheritance of the essence of traditional design education and the adaptation to the modern art education system. Students should master computer and digital technology, be able to do multi-media design and realization, etc.

This Program has been developing with the modern art and computer graphic technology. It focuses on the unity of digital art technology and artistic design and the training of students’ art quality, creative ability and practical ability. The program aims to educate senior professionals in computer artistic design area who can deal with interactive media & video, animation, multimedia and web design.

We try to widen students’ scope through international cooperation. Students shall master the basic skills of digital media and be able to work for TV stations, press, and advertising companies.

Environmental Art Design Program is a newly-emerging interdisciplinary subject, taking the art of time and space into consideration. This Program is growing in three directions: Interior Design, Landscape Design, and Public Arts Design.

10.Art Design - Industrial Design

This Program trains students to become professionals with solid and broad theoretical foundation, complex knowledge structure, innovation and plan ability, excellent expressive skills. Our graduates will not only work in the field of industrial design, but also in areas such as mass media, fashion, environment, arts and crafts.
Specialized Knowledge And Ability
Industrial Design Program is unique in that it focuses on the design of fashion products such as jewelry, hats, cases, bags, and spectacles, as well as the design of electronic products, transportation products, furniture and environmental facilities. Therefore, it interacts with subjects on fashion design, visual communication, environmental art, materials and engineering. We also have strong links with enterprises. For example, the jewelry design course is co-built with Italina Group. The crystal design course is co-built with Swarovski.
