At the 64th Salone del Mobile Milan Design Week in 2026, our university was one of only 23 universities worldwide to be officially invited to independently exhibit, and the exhibition became a prominent force of Eastern design for six consecutive days.

The exhibition, themed "Beyond Design: From Crafts to Fashion Living," is divided into three main sections: "Craftsmanship Rebirth," "Fashion Life," and "Sustainable Ecology." Nearly a hundred young designers collectively spoke out, with some representative works covering cutting-edge fields such as weaving innovation, modular leather, digital generation, and sustainable materials, attracting widespread attention from the global design community.

The exhibition has received extensive coverage from major domestic and international media outlets, including Xinhua News Agency, People's Daily, and Guangming Daily, garnering millions of views globally.In its dedicated report, Xinhua News Agency highlighted that the exhibition, hosted by the Shanghai International College of Fashion and Innovation (SFC) at Donghua University, seamlessly blends heritage with modern creative practices. Featured works modernize and digitally reimagine traditional ethnic totems and intricate embroidery techniques—such as those from the Miao and Shui ethnic groups. This approach exemplifies a defining trend in contemporary Chinese design: rather than merely replicating or superficially copying traditional cultural heritage, today’s young designers are successfully forging dynamic new connections between preservation and innovation.

From Shanghai to Milan, and from university classrooms to the international stage, the exceptional works of faculty and students from the Fashion and Art Design Institute powerfully demonstrate a defining shift: contemporary Chinese design is no longer just engaging in an equal dialogue with the world. Instead, it is actively contributing a unique methodological framework and a distinct set of cultural values to the global design discourse.
