On the eve of “Cultural and Natural Heritage Day”, the “Thriving Tradition - Concluding Exhibition of the Achievements of the Cultural Heritage Research and Training Program at Donghua University” kicked off at the library of the Yan’an Road campus of Donghua University on June 7. Liu Chenggong, the Secretary of the Party Committee of Donghua University, attended the exhibition and unveiled the event. Zhang Xin, a fourth-level researcher from the Intangible Cultural Heritage Department of the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism, as well as representatives from the College of Fashion and Design, the library, and other relevant departments, along with trainees, teachers, and students of the program, were also present at the event, which was chaired by Li Jun, Dean of the College of Fashion and Design.
This exhibition is a retrospective showcase of the achievements of the Cultural Heritage Research and Training Program at Donghua University over eight years and ten sessions. It features outstanding works designed by trainees in collaboration with students from our university, independently designed clothing and cultural and creative works by the trainees, traditional and improved ethnic costumes by the trainees, and dynamic videos highlighting exciting moments from this program.
Donghua University is among the first batch of high-level universities to implement the “Training Program for Inheritors of Chinese Intangible Cultural Heritage”, while the College of Fashion and Design carries out heritage training programs in the field of weaving, dyeing, and embroidery with “creative design of traditional embroidery” at the core. Over the past eight years of the project, the program has trained more than 300 inheritors and practitioners in the fields of dyeing, weaving, and embroidery, as well as cultural management cadres from Guizhou, Yunnan, Hainan, and other places. The college’s Heritage Research and Teaching Center has also conducted multiple research and exchange activities and hosted several influential academic seminars. The program has also given rise to a series of achievements, including national first-class courses, several research projects, academic works, and papers. Looking forward, the college will continue to leverage its disciplinary advantages, focus on the field of clothing and apparel culture, carry out heritage research and training activities, and contribute to the promotion of Chinese traditional culture, thereby building up our cultural confidence.
