According to the "Notice on Announcing the Registration and Approval Results of Undergraduate Majors in General Higher Education Institutions in 2022" recently issued by the Ministry of Education, Donghua University (DHU)’s application to establish a new undergraduate major in civil engineering has been approved, with a 4-year duration of study and the degree awarded in the field of engineering. As a result, the number of undergraduate majors at DHU has increased to 60.
The "Civil Engineering" major undertakes the basic tasks of "ensuring and improving people's livelihood" and "new infrastructure", and adapts to the transformation needs of modern civil engineering for high technology, informatization, and intelligent work. DHU's new undergraduate major of "Civil Engineering" cultivates high-level talents who master the basic theories and professional skills in the field of civil engineering and related interdisciplinary subjects to serve the country's major development strategy needs, especially the new urbanization and the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries, as well as the social development in the Yangtze River Delta.
In the next step, the school will conscientiously implement the Ministry of Education and other five departments' "Reform Plan for Discipline Adjustment and Optimization of General Higher Education", continue to carry out major optimization, adjustment, and upgrading, constantly deepen the supply-side reform of academic disciplines and majors, and comprehensively improve the capacity of independent talent cultivation.
