On April 3, one day after the terrorist attack occurred on Garissa Campus of Moi University, the Head of the International Cultural Exchange School gathered together the nine Kenyan students who’re now studying with us and Prof. Charles Lagat from Moi University who’s now visiting us in Donghua University. Mr. Wu Xiaojun, Vice Dean of the school, asked about the well-beings of their family and friends, and aired condolences and concern from the university authorities, “Donghua University will continue to stand shoulder by shoulder with Moi University and all Kenyan citizens through this most difficult time, and we are willing and ready to offer any help needed.”

This outrageous terrorist attack, which happened shortly after the launching ceremony of Confucius Institute at Moi University, has taken every DHUer in great shock and grief. Upon receiving the shocking news, DHU has extended our deep condolences to the victims and sincere sympathies to all the bereaved families and the injured in Kenya. And the Chinese Co-Director and volunteer teachers of Confucius Institute at Moi University have donated money for their African friends.

As partner with Moi University in “Sino-Africa 20+20 Project” and the fourth Confucius Institute in Kenya featuring Textiles and Fashion Design, Donghua University has collaborated with Moi University very closely, esp. since 2010. Quite a number of Moi faculty members have graduated from Donghua University, including Dr. David Tuigong, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Moi University, Dr. Eric Oyondi Nganyi, Head of Department of Manufacturing, Industrial and Engineering School and Dr. Thomas Kipkurgat, CEO of East Africa Rivatex Textile Co., ltd. We have just established DHU Alumni Association in Kenya this March.
