1New Students: Chinese Government Scholarship

As one of the key universities directly under the Ministry of Education of China, Donghua University (hereinafter referred to as DHU) has been appointed to accept international students with Chinese Government Scholarships (hereinafter referred to as CSC).

China Scholarship Council, entrusted by the Ministry of Education of China, is responsible for the enrollment and administration of Chinese Government Scholarship programs. Applicants can apply through the programs listed below to study Chinese at DHU as a general scholar (join General Chinese Program A). For more information, please refer to China Scholarship Council website: www.campuschina.org.

uWhen to apply: generally starts from the beginning of January till the beginning of April. For specific date, please consult the dispatching authorities in your home country.

uApplication Procedures

1) Applicants should learn about the details and requirements of scholarships through CSC website: www.campuschina.org and the dispatching authorities in their home countries and submit applications as required. The authority will issue an “Award Letter of Chinese Government Scholarship” to those who pass the application.

2) Applicants can contact the university at the same time. Those who pass the university review will gain a “Pre-admission Notice” from DHU. In case the applicants fail to receive the scholarship, with this “Pre-admission Notice”, they can study at DHU as self-funded students.

3) Applicants shall complete the scholarship application based on requirements of the dispatching authorities in their home countries, who will also be the institutions announcing the final results.


2New Students: Confucius Institute Scholarship

DHU has been appointed to accept international students with Confucius Institute Scholarships for one-academic-year/one-semester/four-week study.

uCategory and Eligibility

All applicants shall be: Non-Chinese citizens; In good Physical and mental condition, well performed both academically and behaviorally; Aspired to take future careers on the teaching or international promotion of Chinese language; Between the ages of 16 to 35 on Sept. 1st, 2018.

ØScholarship for One-Academic-Year Study

Commences September 2018 and attend General Chinese Program A. This category provides scholarship of maximum 11 months. Applicants currently studying in China are not eligible. Applicant shall have a minimum score of 180 in HSK Level 3, while HSKK test score required.

ØScholarship for One-Semester Study

Commences either in September 2018 or March 2019 and attend General Chinese Program A. This category provides scholarship of maximum 5 months. Applicants holding visas X1 or X2 are not eligible. Applicant shall have a minimum score of 210 in HSK Level 3, while HSKK test score required.

ØScholarship for Four-week Study

Commences either in July or December of 2018 and attend ‘Chinese Language plus home Stay Experience in Chinese Family’ Program. This category provides a four-week scholarship. Applicants holding visas X1 or X2 are not eligible. Organized and applied by a Confucius Institue with 10-15 participants per group. Piror to the trip, a detailed study plan shall be made after consultation with DHU and submit to Hanban for approval. HSK test scores are required.

uScholarship Coverage and Criteria

ØFull scholarship: full coverage on tuition fee, accommodation fee, living allowance (CNY 2500/month, four-week study students are excluded) and comprehensive medical insurance expenses.

uApplication & Admission

ØOnline registration will be available from March 1st, 2018 on the Confucius Institute Scholarship website (http://cis.chinese.cn). Please upload application materials online, including a scanned copy of passport photo page, a scanned copf of score reports of HSK and HSKK test (within the two-year validity), a recommendation letter by the head of recommending institutions, track the application progress, feedback of review and admission results. Scholarship holders need to confirm with the host institutions to go through the procedures of studying in China, print out CIS scholarship certificate online, and register at host institutions at the designated date and time as per the letter of admission.

ØThe application deadlines are:

a) June 20th (for those commencing in September for one-academic-year/one-semester study)

b) December 20th (for those commencing in March 2019 for one-semester study)

c) April 20th (for those commencing in July for four-week study)

d) September 20th (for those commencing in December for four-week study)



3Currently-enrolled Students: Donghua University President Scholarship

At the end of each semester, “Excellent Student Award” and “Progress Award” will be selected among all the enrolled students in Chinese Program A/B/C/D/E/F. Scholarships will not be delivered in the form of cash but only be used to deduct the same amount of tuition fee of the next semester. The following amount of scholarship is only for 2018 spring semester.

a) Excellent Student Award - CNY1000/person, certificate & prize

b) Progress Award - CNY500/person, certificate & prize

uAward of General Chinese Program B:

a) Excellent Student Award – CNY800/person, certificate & prize

b) Progress Award – CNY400/person, certificate & prize

uAward of Practical Chinese Program C/D/E/F:

a) Excellent Student Award - CNY600/person, certificate & prize

b) Progress Award - CNY 300/person, certificate & prize
