From March 28 - 30, American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC) 2017 International Conference was held in Wilmington, North Carolina of the United States. Sun Gang, alumnus and currently Distinguished Professor of Donghua University as well as Professor in the Division of Textiles and Clothing at the University of California, Davis, was honored with 2016 Olney Medal by AATCC. As the highest award presented by AATCC and the highest honor in textile chemistry, the Olney Medal recognizes outstanding achievement in textile or polymer chemistry or other fields of chemistry of major importance to textile science.
In 1982, Professor Sun received a BS, and in 1984, a MS in Materials Science and Fiber Engineering from China Textile University, now known as Donghua University. In 1994, he received his PhD in Chemistry from Auburn University. He was once among the eighth batch of “Chair Professors of Chang Jiang Scholars Program” appointed by China’s Ministry of Education. As an international renowned expert in textile materials science and engineering, Professor Sun’s achievements and contributions in functional polymer and its fiber, environment-friendly textile functional materials and other fields have been widely recognized by international counterparts.
