The National Climbing Team at DHU for Olympic Qualification Match Preparation Training

On April 17, with 100 days left until the opening of the Paris Olympics, Wang Yunlong, head of the National Climbing Team, and the main coach of the speed group, Zhong Qixin, arrived at Donghua University with all the team members preparing for the competition. They will conduct a one-month pre-Paris Olympic qualification training at the Songjiang campus of our university.

Vice President Chen Ge delivered a welcome speech at the welcoming ceremony for the arrival of the National Climbing Team and congratulated them on their extraordinary achievements over the past two years. Chen Ge detailed the development of Donghua University’s climbing team since its establishment in 2003, which has garnered 141 gold medals, 112 silver medals, and 106 bronze medals in various national climbing events, achieving brilliant results, and also the alma mater of 42 national climbing champions as well as 47 master’s and doctoral students. Climbing has become an epitome of Donghua’s campus culture. He stated that the National Climbing Team’s training at the university is a precious opportunity for DHU to learn from the scientific research support and training experience of the National Climbing Team, and to elevate the training quality and competence of the university’s climbing team.

Wang Yunlong extended his gratitude for the support and guarantee provided by the Donghua University. He noted that the National Climbing Team has already obtained three precious places in the Olympic qualification matches. Among them, Deng Lijuan, an undergraduate student from Class of 2021 at Donghua University, successfully won one of them. He expressed heartfelt thanks to Donghua University for cultivating such outstanding students and hoped that with DHU’s campus culture and strong support, the National Climbing Team could achieve excellent results in the upcoming Paris Olympic qualification seriescompetition (Shanghai Station). He also hoped to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with DHU’s high-level climbing team to propel the development of climbing sports together.

With combined effort from each department, DHU will provide excellent training environment and conditions for the national team. The cooperation between theuniversity and the National Climbing Team will bring new opportunities for the development of climbing sports at DHU, and it is hoped that the cooperation and exchanges between both sides will yield fruitful results, making greater contributions to the development of climbing sports in China.
